Broadband in the News

The World Radiocommunication Conference 2023 WRC-23 is being held from 20 Nov -15 Dec in Dubai to review and revise Radio Regulations. Commissioner H.E. Eng. Sultan Al Mesmar, DG of TDRA, and Commission Co-Vice Chair, ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan Martin kicked off the event with opening remarks.
COP28, brought together representatives from across the globe to address the global challenge of climate change. Many Commissioners attended and emphasized the importance of taking Green Digital Action for a sustainable and inclusive digital future.
The Working Group on Connectivity for MSMEs, co-chaired by ITC &GSMA, hosted a session at UNCTAD eWeek to explore the findings of their recent report, “Making Connectivity Work for MSMEs, and shared how improved uptake and usage of digital connectivity supports sustainable development. 
Commissioner Erik Ekudden shares his insights about the technology trends he expects will result in a mobile industry transitioning to a business platform model, one enabling a truly open platform for business innovation. Cloud and AI technologies, programmable networks, API exposure and as-a-service business models are all instrumental in this process.

The P2C Digital Coalition will hold its second Annual Meeting on Tuesday, 12 December (14:00-16:30 CET) at ITU Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The event will offer participants the opportunity to engage with high-level representatives and pledge makers from government, industry, civil society, and other sectors. The meeting will be in-person, with a virtual component to allow anyone around the world to follow the progress of the coalition.

The program will be followed by the 10th Annual EQUALS in Tech Awards Ceremony (16:30-17:30 CET), to celebrate those initiatives, projects, organizations, and institutions around the world that have displayed extraordinary commitment to reducing the digital gender divide. The Awards Ceremony will be followed by a cocktail reception from 17:15.
