Give for Thanksgiving!

Please help give back to the community by donating food for Thanksgiving.  There are three opportunities below, and many more throughout the city.  Read below for more info about Cranksgiving, The RVE/Open Table Pantry Food Drive, and the Corner Pantry.
Oaks and Spokes’ Cranksgiving is this Sunday and they’re collecting donations for healing-transitions.org, with drop-offs in the community at So & So and Pine State Coffee (and more) for those that want to donate but can’t make it to Cranksgiving.
Keep an eye on https://oaksandspokes.com/fall-bike-fest/ for more events and information.

Please contribute food items to the
Raleigh Village East Food Drive for the Open Table Pantry.

Raleigh Village East (RVE) is an Aging in Place Community that encompasses these downtown Raleigh neighborhoods: Oakwood, Pilot Mill, Mordecai, East Mordecai, Oakdale, Capitol Heights, Idlewild, College Park, Madonna Acres, Chavis Park and South Park.

Details below:

Corner Pantry Items Needed

Please keep our neighborhood Corner Pantry in mind for donations as you are able. It is at the corner of Glascock and Watauga Streets. We continue to welcome all to take what they need and leave what they can. The Corner Pantry has been utilized a great deal since being built, so please help us maintain inventory by dropping off non-perishable foods as you are able. Thanks!

Vote to Fund Projects in Our District

Cast a vote to see your favorite project in next year's budget.

The City is inviting residents to help determine how to spend $1,000,000 in capital funding city-wide: that's $200,000 per district. During last year's budget engagement process, residents indicated needs in the areas of community development, transportation, community engagement, and sustainability.

Participatory budgeting is happening now through the end of the year!  More info and voting here:

Leaf Collection Time

Fall is here and city-wide leaf collection will begin October 30, 2023.
***In the Mordecai community, our collection weeks are November 6 and January 22.***

Raleigh neighborhoods are divided into 12 zones for this service. The Mordecai Community is spread across two leaf collection zones numbered 8 and 11. Crews will start collecting in Zone 10 and continue to the remaining zones as weather and equipment allow. Please check the collection schedule or interactive map on when to place your leaves at the curb for pickup.

ZONE 11 begins November 6: Those living west of Wake Forest Rd including the Mordecai, Pilot Mill and Capital Park neighborhood.

ZONE 8 begins January 22: Those living east of Wake Forest Rd including the East Mordecai, Oakdale and Oakwood neighborhoods.

Alternatives to Loose Leaf Collection: We encourage you to consider using other options to manage leaves:

  • Mulching – conserves water, helps prevent weeds, and improves the overall health of your lawn or garden, and also benefits the broader environment.

  • Bi-Weekly Yard Waste Collection - As a reminder, residents can utilize their  lime green yard waste carts and up to 15 biodegradable paper bags for leaves as part of their regular yard waste collection.

The city website can be found at https://raleighnc.gov/leaf

Volunteer with the Mordecai CAC - make your community a better place!

The Mordecai CAC is the Mordecai Community Action Coalition. We are a coalition of multiple neighborhoods working together to provide ways for citizens to share information, meet each other, and take action in our community. Neighborhoods include: Pilot Mill, Oakdale, Mordecai, East Mordecai, North Person/Blount, Cotton Mill, Capitol Park, and part of Oakwood.

The MCAC Leadership Team is open and welcomes any resident of the Mordecai Community. Our core group of neighbors communicates regularly to plan meetings and share ideas for citizen engagement. We'd love to have more neighbors get involved.  The leadership team communicates via a Slack Workspace.  All residents are welcome to join.

Please contact David and Dexter at chair@mordecaicac.org.
