Background
Lumos Fiber recently began pulling new telecom fiber throughout Elmwood Park. Within the span of a few days, they had hit numerous gas, sewer, water, and electrical lines.
On the evening of November 13th, they hit a gas line on Lincoln Street next to Roy Lynch Park and Logan Elementary, both of which were full of children. Fortunately, no one was injured, but this did result in the closure of Elmwood Avenue during rush hour and caused massive gridlock.
While we absolutely welcome another service provider, it cannot be at this level disruption to the neighborhood.
Stop Work Order
On November 14th, the City of Columbia issued a stop work order to Lumos Fiber in Elmwood Park. This order will not be released until such a time as they satisfy numerous requirements. You may still see crews doing clean up work, but they should not be doing any digging or boring.
Hazmat Detection Sweeps
Columbia Fire Department Hazmat Teams will be walking the neighborhood with detection meters to look for any unreported leaks. If you suspect there may be a leak, please call 911.
Lumos Fiber Survey
We have heard many reports of issues, but would like to gather specifics from any neighbors who have been impacted. Please forward to any neighbors who may not be on this email.
