As we head into Thanksgiving, we want to share our appreciation for all of you- our current familes, alumni families, and community supporters-  who make Gardner School a vibrant and safe space for children. We're grateful you all are here at Gardner!

We're also very grateful for the thoughtful work our teachers do every day, and on these inservice days we're diving deeply into conversations around student support, assessment, and more.

Here are some of the ways families shared they practice gratitude at home, too:

"We have a grateful candle on our dinner table. Each night we light the candle and say one thing we are thankful for from our day!"

"We started a little journal, where she and I talk about the good things that happened that day and I write them down."

"We have a thankful tree in our family eating area. We write down what we are thankful for everyday on a paper leaf and place it on the tree, we say these out loud to everyone at the table."

"At dinner time we like to go around and say what we are thankful for."

Practices of gratitude benefit children year round, and our classroom social emotional curriculum includes many opportunities for this work, too. If you'd like to learn more about the value of a gratitude practice, you can find out more here from PBS Kids
Unfortunately, we did not have enough interest to run a Gardner School Winter Break camp this year, but will consider it again for Spring Break. We appreciate the time you take to respond, and we're happy to be responsive to community needs.

We are happy to announce that we are adding soccer clinics to our after-school enrichment program, starting after the New Year!  Each series is 10 sessions for $175, paid directly to West Coast Soccer Academy.  We have them split by grades, with K-2nd students on Tuesdays and 3rd-6th students on Thursdays.  Within each grouping, students may further be grouped by skill level or age, depending on enrollment.

Preschool Field Trip

Thank you, Glavin Homes!

Thank you to Gardner parents Niall and Amanda Glavin and Glavin Homes for hosting our preschool students for an amazing field trip to the job site!

Field trips are a great way to reinforce the information students have been learning about in the classroom. Reading and hearing about concepts is one thing, but having the opportunity to experience them firsthand is another entirely. This helps preschool children solidify their understanding and provides a real-world example to reference. In turn, children can bring these examples into their play as they dig deeper and gain understanding. It was wonderful to visit the construction site this week and see ‘concrete’ examples of how buildings are built. They had a great time seeing what goes into building a home, and left with blueprints, measuring tapes, and a great experiential learning experience.

Volunteers Needed!

Pancake Breakfast
The Gardner School Pancakes and Pajama Day is coming up on Friday, December 15th. Parent volunteers are a big part of this event, and it's a wonderful way to send our teachers and students into Winter Break! If you're able to spend time making food, setting up, or cleaning up, we'd love your help! You can also sign up below to contribute food items to the event. Any questions? Send them to Office Manager, Lisa Linderman

Gardner students were wowed by Anavai O Te Ora, formerly known as Ora Nui Tahitian Dance Troupe, at our community meeting last Friday. We are grateful to them for supporting the learning our Wy'East students are doing with their Polynesian Island thematic, and sharing their culture with all our students.
