Pilot Project (PP) and Research Project (RP)
Pilot Project (PP)
The Alaska INBRE Pilot Project (PP) funding opportunity is now open.  An optional Letter of Intent is due November 15, 2023.  The submission deadline is January 30, 2024, at 5 pm AKT. 

PPs will provide up to $42,000 for a one-year biomedical or behavioral project, with an additional $8,000/year is available to PPs that includes support for one or more undergraduate student researchers.

Eligibility - Must be part of the six Alaska INBRE partner institutions.

The PP project leader, preferably early-stage investigators (ESIs), must have a full-time faculty appointment (tenure-track & research faculty) at a partner college or university or serve as a full-time investigator at SCF or ANTHC at the time of award.

Research Project (RP)
The Alaska INBRE Research Project (RP) funding opportunity is now open.  An optional Letter of Intent is due November 15, 2023.  The submission deadline is January 30, 2024, at 5 p.m. AKT. 

A single-year project may not exceed $125,000 direct costs. The combined budget for direct costs for a two-year project period may not exceed $250,000, with no more than $125,000 requested in any single year. Per NIH, no carryover is allowed from grant year 1 to grant year 2 and beyond. See the BUDGET section in Section IV for additional information. A project that does not budget undergraduate student support for at least two students may not exceed $100,000 per year in total direct costs.

Responsible Conduct of Research Training
November 14 - 8am-12:30 pm
via Zoom

 
Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) is required training for undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers supported by NIH, NSF, and other awards. RCR training covers core norms, principles, regulations, and rules governing the practice of researcxh. RCR is a highly recommended "best practices" course for those desiring to deepen their knowledge of ethical research and responsible conduct. it is also an excellent professional opportunity for anyone interested in furthering a career in research.

This particular workshop fulfills the  NIH requirements for formal RCR instruction, and this training is open to all INBRE partner institutions (faculty, graduate students, staff, and undergraduates). This is a two-part training. paret 1 requires you to complete an online CITI Training module, and Part 2 requires you to participate in RCR training. You must complete both parts to receive your RCR certificate.

MRI Safety Training - Nov 6, 2023 @ 4-5pm, Murie 103, UAF
This training is required for anyone that wishes to have access to the MRI suite, and is highly recommended for anyone that ever needs to go into the suite, including facilities, custodial, and emergency first responders, as well as any researchers that may need to work in the suite. Everyone is welcome to attend. Learn the basics of MRI, proper safety precautions, what to do in an emergency

Center ICE Seed Funding and I-Corps programs:  Accepting applications for spring-summer proposals through Nov 27. We're looking for researchers whose interests and projects overlap with our invitation request for proposal themes and focuses. DEBUT 2024 Challenge (Design by Biomedical Undergraduate Teams)
The National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) has released a Notice of Information for the 2024 DEBUT Challenge. Started in 2012, NIBIB's annual DEBUT Challenge has solicited design projects that develop innovative solutions to unmet health and clinical problems. Areas of interest for the biomedical engineering projects include, but are not limited to: diagnostics, therapeutics, technologies for underserved populations or low-resource settings, point-of-care systems, precision medicine, preventive medicine, technologies to aid individuals with disabilities, and technologies for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care of diseases and illnesses such as cancer, HIV/AIDS, or diabetes. Please see the official Notice of Information here

MW CTR-IN 2024-2025 Funding Opportunity Announcements:
  • Pilot Projects (PPG) for early career and/or other midlevel-to-senior investigators seeking support to obtain key preliminary data that will eventually support and inform a competitive "R-level" grant application to NIH or other extramural funding sources.
