K̓wséltkten Kristmas

The 3rd Annual K̓wséltkten Kristmas is on Sunday, November 12th at the Coast Kamloops Hotel & Conference Centre. Market hours are from 10 am to 5 pm. Be sure to bring your reusable shopping bags as you will discover a treasure trove from local artisans, bakers, makers, and growers in attendance, all while enjoying local live music.

AGM November 14

Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc invites membership to the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, November 14, from 5pm to 8pm at Moccasin Square Garden. An online option via MS Teams is available for virtual attendance, with the link emailed to registered members on November 10, 2023. The agenda and official documents can be downloaded from the members-only section of the TteS website.

CER Community Engagement Session

Next CER session is November 15! Tk̓emlúps Members are invited to participate in Community Engagement Sessions to Discuss Updates to the TteS Custom Election Regulations (CER). A Vote to Amend the CER will take place at a GBM in the new year. All meetings will be 5pm - 8pm in the Assembly Hall at Chief Louis Center. Dinner will be served.

Karate Triumph

We are thrilled to share that 13-year-old Hunter Miers, from Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc, has triumphed at his first World Championships Karate Competition in Calgary, bringing home not one, but TWO well-deserved medals! An outstanding member of Team Canada, Hunter has made his family and all of TteS proud. His dedication and skill are truly commendable.

But the journey doesn't end here! Hunter's sights are set on the next challenge: securing a spot at the Worlds in Rhodes, Greece, in October 2024. We're cheering you on every step of the way, Hunter!

Sweláps Market Grand Opening

We proudly invite you to join us for a special grand opening celebration on Thursday, November 16th. The day will kick off at 11 a.m. with speeches and a ribbon cutting, and from here we will shift to sharing food and enjoying live music. Throughout the day you can enter for a chance to win prizes and enjoy free food samples. Sweláps Market will feature amazing deals and prize draws over the entire week so make sure to stop in and shop. Bring your family and friends, meet your neighbors, and chat with our staff and the team that made this community vision a reality!

Training and Employment Dinner

On November 16, 2023, there will be a Training and Employment Needs Assessment Information Session and Community Dinner at the CLC Assembly Hall at 5 pm. The event aims to gather input from band members regarding training and employment needs for the Tk̓emlúps community. Participants can learn more about the needs assessment, enjoy dinner, and have a chance to win door prizes. The Education Department initiated this project five years ago with a survey, and now they seek community input to shape future training and employment programs.

A NIGHT OF SONGS AND STORIES

The Indigenous Connections team at Kamloops Alliance Church are honoured to present "A Night Of Songs And Stories" that highlights Indigenous voices that will bring perspective, hope, and healing. Special guest is Artist and Storyteller, Howard Jolly. The night will also feature a Panel from the Indigenous Connections Team at Kamloops Alliance Church sharing their efforts and initiatives around reconciliation work and what we see as the way forward.

This is a night for Indigenous and non-Indigenous as we seek to build bridges and cast hope for a brighter future together.

Venue: Moccasin Square Garden, Kamloops, BC

Elkstwécw Workshop

The Secwépemc Child and Family Services Elkstwécw Workshop on Regalia/Ribbon Skirt Belts is scheduled for Tuesday, November 21 at Moccasin Square Garden. The event includes a dinner from 5:30 pm to 6:00 pm, followed by an exclusive workshop from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. The workshop is specifically for TteS band members who will be creating belts for themselves. Participation is limited, and early registration is recommended. Contact Squwey Gottfriedsen at squwey.gottfriedsen@secwepemcfamilies.org to sign up or for inquiries. A delicious dinner will be provided for all participants.

Training and Education Survey

The Education Department is once again seeking input from band members regarding training and employment. This project commenced five years ago with the distribution of a survey, enabling us to develop training and employment programs for the community based on feedback received. We now invite you to shape the future direction of training and employment programs for Tk̓emlúps by sharing your thoughts on priorities for yourself, your family, and the community.

Upon completion of this survey, the results will guide the Education Department in strategically delivering programs that are community-driven. Join us for a community dinner on Thursday, November 16th at the CLC to meet the researchers and take the opportunity to fill out the online survey, which is available now!

New Executive Titles

As part of Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc's ongoing commitment to aligning roles and responsibilities with our strategic objectives, we are pleased to announce a change in the titles of our Executive Directors.

Effective November 7th, following the Chief and Council Regular Meeting, it has been decided that the titles of our Executive Directors will be changed to reflect their crucial roles within the organization. The new titles will be as follows:

  • Tammy Robertson - Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)
  • Travis Anderson - Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

These changes not only better reflect the nature of their responsibilities but also enhance clarity both internally and externally about the key leadership positions within our organization. All reporting lines will remain the same.

Leadership Gathering

Chief and Council had another successful BC Cabinet and First Nations Leadership Gathering which was held in Vancouver on Nov. 2 and 3rd. TteS participated in 23 different meetings with Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Assistant Deputy Ministers. Chief and Council also participated in various plenary and discussion sessions including “Alignment of Laws in BC”, “Anti – Racism Legislation”, “Delivering on the BC Tripartite Education Agreement and the Declaration Act Action Plan Commitments”, “Forestry Landscape Planning”, “Homelessness”, “Operationalizing Consent and New Decision-Making Models”, “Emergency Management”, and “Distinction Based approach”. There were also lots of opportunities for networking and visiting the numerous booths representing Indigenous organizations.

MCFC Engagement Sessions

From March 2023 through December 2024, the Province is collecting feedback as part of its overall work to design an effective system of services for children and youth with support needs. This engagement will be inclusive of families, service providers, advocates, experts, those with lived experience, First Nations, and Indigenous Peoples.

Poppy Ceremony

Councillor Dave represented Tḱemlúps te Secwépemc at the first poppy ceremony organized by the Legion. It was the first time that the RCMP and TteS have been included. The first poppy ceremony indicates the beginning of the Remembrance Day campaign. The Mayor accepts the first poppy on behalf of the residents of the City and Councillor Dave did the same for Tḱemlúpsemc. Lest We Forget.

RCMP Newsletter

Where The Rivers Meet is the Community Newsletter provided by Tk̓emlúps Indigenous Policing which services the Indigenous communities of Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc, Skeetchestn Indian Band and Whispering Pines/Clinton Indian Band. IPTP Course

The Indigenous Pre-Cadet Training Program (IPTP) offers Canadian Indigenous people, between the ages of 19 and 29, an opportunity to experience a modified three-week Depot training experience within the RCMP at the RCMP Training Academy in Regina, Saskatchewan. Applications for the Spring 2024 session will close on December 15, 2023.

Treatment for Youth

Youth Substance Use Counselling & Treatment Services will support youth youth aged 12-24 who are seeking treatment for moderate to severe substance use in their community. Sexual Assault Counselling Centre Presentation

In partnership with the Kamloops Sexual Assault Counselling Centre, Community Services is hosting an informative session addressing critical issues and fostering community awareness on Thursday, November 30 at Community Services. Come and engage in discussions that matter, gain valuable insights, and contribute to building a safer and more supportive community. Your participation can make a difference. GIS/GPS Mapping Foundations

This course introduces learners to the foundational knowledge necessary for pursuing a career in Global Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) mapping, including skills development in data gathering and map customization, GIS analysis and modelling, and project plan development. From this course, learners can ladder into our Futures-level GIS/GPS mapping course which provides career-ready professional skills and certifications.

Coffee with a Cop

Please note NEW location: Community Services, 300 Chilcotin Road

On Wednesday, December 6 at 10:00 am, Community Services (300 Chilcotin Road) will host our monthly Coffee with a Cop. This gathering aims to foster a better understanding between Tk̓emlúps RCMP and community members. The casual setting of the event will offer a chance to engage in conversations over coffee and tea. The organizers hope that this initiative will further strengthen the relationship between the police and the community. Everyone is welcome to attend, and we look forward to seeing you there!
