'Tis the Season for the Children's Toy Store!

In  A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens described the holiday season as "a time when want is keenly felt and abundance rejoices." What was true in London in 1843 is still true in Rochester 180 years later, and especially for the staggering number of children living in poverty. At St. Peter's, we pride ourselves in providing not only the food and nutrients people need to survive, but also the joy and kindness that people need to thrive.

Our annual Christmas toy store is a manifestation of this mission; one evening in late December, we set up our dining room as a toy "store" where families can choose toys for the children in their lives. With a range of toys for different age groups, books, family board games, and essentials like blankets, we help make the holidays merry and bright for our neighbors.

What You Need to Know

Last year,  we served 60 households and a total of 180 children, and we expect to serve a similar number this year.

We're accepting donations every weekday from 9am to 11am and from 1pm to 3pm until December 15th, especially of

-new toys for ages 0 through 12
-books
-board games
-blankets, hats, and gloves

This is a general call for donations to stock our toy store, and there will be an updated version of this newsletter with more specifics sent out in the beginning of December.
