Prostate Cancer | Shared Decision Making | Abstract |

Abby L Chang, MD and MPHS alumni addressed a group of community partners, patients, physicians and other care providers during a meeting in November to advance long-COVID care in medically vulnerable and underserved communities in the St. Louis metropolitan region and in rural Missouri. The WashU team won a five-year federal grant totaling $4.5 million. Shu “Joy” Jiang, PhD, MSc and Graham Colditz, MD, DrPH recently received an award from the WashU Gap Fund. The award will enable them to  perform translational work to de-risk and mature technology developed for identifying pathologic characteristics in histopathology images. 

Jean Hunleth, PhD, MPH created an arts-based methods installation for the 2023 American Anthropological Association/CASCA (Canadian Anthropology Society) meetings in Toronto. This week-long installation kicked off with a presentation on the possibilities of arts-based methods in research. Conference attendees interacted with the installation, working with the art produced within Hunleth’s PHRAME study. Hunleth also participated on a panel on Forming a Team and Collaborating as an Anthropologist in Public Health and Biomedicine.

Lindsey Kaufman, PHRC1 of the Hunleth Lab, received the 2023 Nancy “Penny” Schwartz Undergraduate Essay Award from the Association for Africanist Anthropology (AFAA) for her essay, which extended Hunleth’s Caring for Caregivers study to focus on historical factors affecting caregiving in Zambia. Kaufman’s essay is entitled, “Informal Bedside Care in Zambia: A Response to Colonial Economic Starvation and Hospital Understaffing”

Mary Politi, PhD, and Mark Neuman, MD, MSc, were awarded funding from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute to implement an evidence-based approach to increase shared decision making for anesthesia choices.
