Celebrations of Learning
Celebrations of Learning are an important step for our students as they gather materials, finish projects, and think about how to best share their learning with an authentic audience. The students practice their public speaking and performances in homeroom classes and with specialists, and they demonstrate bravery and grit!

After visiting your child's classroom, you're welcome to check out what's going on in other rooms, too! Consider visiting the next age up to see what learning looks like there, and we welcome our Early Childhood families to participate. Being part of a greater community that values learning and demonstrates creative and hands-on learning is a key tenet of the Gardner School.

Mazama Class
Wednesday, 12/13

Teacher Carli and the students can't wait to show all the fun learning activities from their first thematic!

Join them at 12:00 pm next Wednesday in the Great Room and the Mazama classroom.

K-6 Classes
Thursday, 12/14

Families will gather in the Great Room to see student presentations, then you're invited to the individual classrooms for more examples of learning.

The assembly starts at 2:30 pm.

Pahto Celebration of Learning

Great Job, First Graders!

Our Pahto students presented their work to families and schoolmates last Friday, and their learning about Vancouver Then and Now was impressive! We loved seeing all the integrated art along with stories of their field trips, examples of writing, and more.

Re-Enrollment News
Planning Ahead for 24-25 School Year
As we enter into the New Year, we begin looking forward to the 24-25 school year with re-enrollment plans for our families. We know our school community is strong, with dedicated parents who value a different type of education for their children. Each child brings something unique to his or her classroom, and our staff feels honored to watch them grow over many years. Some of our families have been with us for awhile, and are familiar with this process, but other families are new this year and may have questions. Stay tuned for more information about Financial Aid applications in the coming weeks, and reach out to Assistant Head, Courtney Tomlinson, with any re-enrollment questions.

Thank you for trusting the Gardner School with your child's education!

Enrolling a sibling next year?

Our current families get priority enrollment for siblings who are ready to join Gardner School, too! All sibling applications are due by February 1st, and classroom visitations will be scheduled shortly after.

Please note- our Early Childhood program is designed to best serve children who would be 3 or older by September 1st, 2024.

Staff  Member Introduction
Bebe Claus, Long-Term Substitute Teacher
We are so excited to welcome Bebe Claus to our campus as a long-term substitute for Pahto (December) and Wy'East (starting in February).

Bebe has been involved in education since 2015 in a variety of roles, including as a special education paraeducator and learning support, and holds a teaching certificate in Elementary Education. Her years of work in local schools gives her a deep understanding of different learning styles and classroom management tools. She has a true passion for education as it can be at Gardner- inquiry based, hands-on, and student focused. Her goal is to create a safe space for students emotionally, and a space where they are comfortable taking academic risks, too.

Bebe was born in Hawaii, and has Ohana on the mainland and back on the islands, but lives now in Vancouver with her husband, two of her three sons, and their dog. When not teaching, you can find Bebe paddleboarding, kayaking, creating art, doing calligraphy and crochet, gardening, and enjoying all things tropical!
Gift Giving in Classrooms

As we enter into the holiday season, we want to encourage families to be mindful of gift giving to other students in a classroom. Our teachers and parent volunteers have plans in place for a relaxing and special way to celebrate the end of the term, and extra items in the classroom can be a distraction. In the hopes of creating a classroom space that feels equitable to all families, we're asking for no gifts, gift bags, or additional treats be brought in for distribution to other children. If your child's teacher is planning a class specific gift exchange, they will communicate in their weekly classroom newsletters with details.
