TWO DUT RESEARCHERS, ZIKHO QWATEKANA AND NDIVHUHO TSHIKOVI WIN THE BEST PAPER AWARD AT THE 2023 GISU RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM IN AUSTRALIA

Two researchers from the Durban University of Technology (DUT), Zikho Qwatekana and Ndivhuho Tshikovi were awarded the Best Paper Award in the Alliance of Guangzhou International Sister-city Universities (GISU) Research Symposium, which was held recently in Parramatta, Australia.

The theme of the GISU Research Symposium was “Explored business rejuvenation, resilience, and creativity in the post-pandemic world.” DUT is a proud member of the Alliance of Guangzhou International Sister-city Universities (GISU), which includes 20 members and affiliate members. The alliance represents five continents, 17 countries, 19 sister and friendlier cities.

DUT WINS FOUR AWARDS IN RECOGNITION FOR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE AMONG PRACTITIONERS IN MARKETING, ADVANCEMENT AND COMMUNICATION IN THE HIGHER EDUCATION SECTOR

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) won four awards at the annual Marketing, Advancement and Communication in Education (MACE) Excellence Awards hosted at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in Cape Town from 15 to 16 November 2023.

The conference featured an array of speakers which included keynote speeches, panel discussions, and interactive workshops that covered the theme of Artificial Intelligence, and a range of topics relevant to marketing, advancement, communication, branding, advancement and alumni relations.

30 DUT HOSPITALITY AND CATERING MANAGEMENT STUDENTS HEAD TO THE USA ON A FOUR-MONTH WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAMME

The Department of Hospitality and Tourism in the Faculty of Management Sciences at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) recently gathered in a joyous occasion to bid farewell to 30 second-year Hospitality and Catering Management students, who will be jetting off to the USA for a four-month work experience opportunity on Monday, 27 November 2023.

It is a first in the history of the DUT Hotel School where 30 students will be jetting off as a pre-Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) activity to experience and work in leading and reputable hospitality organisations in the USA. This is a four-month contract, starting in December 2023 and ending in March 2024.

FACULTY OF APPLIED SCIENCES HOSTS FIFTH ANNUAL RESEARCH DAY

The Faculty of Applied Sciences (FAS) at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) hosted the 2023 Faculty Research Day. The prestigious event was held at Coastlands Musgrave Hotel on Friday, 17 November 2023.

The FAS Research Day is an annual event where the faculty invites staff members and students from all 10 departments to showcase their research successes. The event gave researchers and guests the opportunity to network and engage about their research.

DUT IEP BIDS FAREWELL TO FINAL-YEAR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

The DUT International Education and Partnerships (IEP) unit hosted the 2023 International Students’ Farewell at Mojos in Davenport on Friday, November 17, 2023, to bid farewell to international students who have completed their study period, including the 2nd-semester exchange students who have also reached the end of their semester-abroad programme at DUT. The official proceedings were chaired by Mr. Kieron Dzwairo, DUT International Students’ Organization (ISO) Project Officer (2023).

The function programme included an awards ceremony for students whose contributions have gone beyond academic activities, including the ISO executive committee as a recognized DUT student society forming part of the many other Student Services housed under the Dean of Students.

DUT IMPACT

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) approved the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework. The five values are identified as transparency, honesty, integrity, respect, and accountability. The principles espoused are fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion, and excellence. DUT’s Communications team, Patience Makhaye, spoke to Philile Mbamali, an International Education Programmes Assistant.

Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT? 

A: “I currently hold the title of an International Education Programmes Assistant for the International Education and Partnerships Office at ML Sultan campus. Through administration I assist with IEP functions, meetings, and events.
