Trees changing color on a walk in our neighborhood in Upland

November 2023 - So much has happened this year that we want to take a moment during this Thanksgiving season to reflect on what we are thankful for as a couple. Please celebrate our blessings with us.

  • Our daughter Emily lives nearby in Bluffton, IN while teaching Chemistry at Southern Wells. She visits often as she is part of a gaming group with her dad.

  • Our daughter Rachel graduated in May from Indiana University with her Master’s degree. In June, we celebrated the marriage of Rachel to Sam Surface. In December, she will be starting a new job as a public librarian in Dayton, OH.

  • Both our parents live nearby and are in good health. Angie’s parents come each week to help with her care. T.R.’s parents often come over to assist with projects. We love spending time with them.

  • T.R. celebrated his second anniversary with SIL. We continue to be blessed by our ministry with SIL and the amazing people we work with.

  • T.R. attended many productive conferences and meetings for work including SIL Leadership Pillars, Missional.AI, the Paratext Summit, and the Bible Translation Conference.

  • T.R. enjoyed his 30th reunion at Taylor University. Amazing time reflecting on lifelong friendships and the impact Taylor had on both of us. We met and got engaged at Taylor. Next year will be Angie’s 30th reunion at Taylor.

  • Our church, Upland Community Church, continues to grow and we are blessed by their love and support. They recently started a Stephen Ministry which has provided wonderful counseling to us.

  • T.R. had a clean bill of health from his yearly physical. His doctor was very pleased.

  • Angie’s multiple sclerosis continues to remain stable and her doctors are always seeking new medications and treatments to help.

  • We have a wonderful community of supporters (all of you) who pray for us and reach out to us.

While their have been many trials and challenges this year, we still are very thankful for all our blessings.

God at Work

“God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply.” - Hudson Taylor

Here are some things He has done recently:

  • SIL has been conducting research and testing in the field of computer-assisted translation for over a decade. Over the past few months, the Scripture Forge team has begun field testing a process for using neural machine translation (NMT) to produce rough drafts of translations in low-resource languages to launch Old Testament projects where the New Testament translation has been completed. There has been some positive feedback from field teams, and we want to be sure that this technology is made available early to those working inside SIL who may benefit from it. If you would like to learn more, click here.

  • Our Writing Systems Technology team continues to develop and improve the fonts they provide. In this maintenance release for SIL’s Nastaliq-style font for Arabic script, the addition of six new characters enables support for the Kazakh, Malay, and Uyghur languages. Other improvements include the addition of bold forms of the honorifics as well as a few bug fixes.

I hope this small glimpse encourages you to see what God is doing through all of us serving at SIL International.

Prayer and Praise

  • Please pray as we respond to the 2024 ETEN funding and its impacts on our budgets.

  • Please pray for the upcoming Christmas holiday. The majority of the Language Technology staff will be traveling all over the US and the world during the holiday. Also pray for those who cannot travel to be with family.

  • Please continue to pray for an unspoken request that Angie and T.R. are working through.

  • Praising God for Autumn in Indiana. We have been enjoying the Fall colors, crisp air, and aromas. Winter weather begins soon and new experiences to enjoy.

  • Please let us know how we can be praying for you!

Thank you for your prayers and encouragement.

In Him,
T.R. and Angie Knight

How can you support the work we are doing with SIL International?

Glad you asked! T.R. is currently in a fully funded position in his role as Director of Bible Translation Software. The finances come from a funding organization devoted to innovation in Bible Translation. Because T.R.’s position is fully funded, we are not currently requesting you to partner with us financially. What we could use the most are your prayers and encouragement. If you would like to financially support the work that SIL does, you can give online or via check. If you give online, you can designate Language Technology or any of our specific projects that interest you. If you give via check, you can include in the note field a designation of Bible Translation Software - KBTD16. Thank you for your prayers and support.
