LWVRB Honors Jason Sullivan with its Inaugural Rising Star Civic Award
 

December 6, 2023—Roselle, IL—The League of Women Voters of Roselle-Bloomingdale honored Jason Sullivan with its Rising Star Civic Award at their "Decade of Impact" 10th Anniversary Celebration held in October. The Rising Star Civic Award honors a student aged 16-21 who demonstrated public service, civic education, democratic engagement, and a culture of social responsibility.

"Jason exemplifies the new emphasis on experiential civics in social studies education. It includes activities like serving as poll workers, instituting student voice in schools, service-learning, simulations of adult civic roles, and learning about government by examining issues in the community and taking action," said Donna Limper, Co-President, League of Women Voters of Roselle-Bloomingdale.

Jason has demonstrated strong civic leadership for many years. Jason’s STEM group in Middle School created a compost bin to keep organic waste from school lunches out of landfills. He spent a year recording seasonal data on insects in different sections of the forest preserve to determine if insects were more present in certain areas. When the League wanted a Lake Park Earth Club member to join a local coalition advocating for Roselle to join the Greenest Region Compact, Jason stepped forward and donated his time.  As part of his advocacy, he made an eloquent public comment on behalf of the Earth Club to Roselle's Village Board.

Jason is indeed a Rising Star and the League of Women Voters of Roselle-Bloomingdale was pleased to honor him with this inaugural award. As part of Jason's award, the League will provide a $100 contribution in Jason's honor to Partners In Health, a global health organization that's committed to improving the health of the poor and marginalized.
