Common Cause is hosting a conference featuring members of citizen redistricting commissions. Our mission is to bring together citizen commissioners and reform advocates from across the country to exchange ideas about the challenging and important work of drawing America’s voting maps.
The conference will take place in Los Angeles on December 11 and 12, 2023. After recruiting an amazing group of commissioners to join us, we now have limited spots for reformers to join as well. Advocates can RSVP to the conference here.
The main program will take place on December 12, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the California Endowment Conference Center in the heart of Los Angeles. Highlights of conference include:
Opening discussion with former Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O’Conner, who will discuss Ohio’s experience with gerrymandering and the current effort to create a citizens commission in Ohio.
A welcome dinner on December 11 at the Hill Street Bar and Restaurant, conveniently located at the Kawada Hotel.
On December 12, we will host discussions about the key ingredients for successful independent redistricting – bringing together insights from commissioners and redistricting advocates and scholars.
We will also discuss the path to fair representation in 2030. Together, we will explore existing or potential resources that can improve public engagement and empower commissioners with data they need to draw fair maps.
We will close the festivities with a reception to allow one last opportunity for commissioners to connect with each other and with advocates.
Common Cause and conference hosts will cover most conference costs and provide meals during the conference. We only ask that you pay $25 to hold your spot and defray some expenses.
We have arranged discounted rates for all attendees at the Kawada Hotel, which attendees can reserve after they submit an RSVP.
This extraordinary event is made possible through the generous support of Common Cause, The California Endowment, Haystaq DNA, Redistricting Data Hub, Redistricting Partners, and Data Viewpoint.
