Melanie Furtado and Lauren Jimerson, PhD
Join us for a captivating live interview with renowned sculptor Melanie Furtado at Rens Lipsius Studio. Furtado will offer a glimpse into her creative world, sharing her latest sculptures that explore the depth of human emotion as manifested in the form of the contemporary female figure. The interview, led by Lauren Jimerson, PhD, will delve into Furtado's process of sculpting from live models and her nuanced approach to curation, particularly in juxtaposing her works with those of artist Rens Lipsius.
LAUREN JIMERSON BIO
Lauren Jimerson is an art historian whose research examines late 19th and early 20th century art in France and the US, with a focus on gender studies, women artists, and the intersections of art and literature.
Before moving to Paris in 2015, Lauren served as Adjunct Assistant Professor at CUNY, College of Staten Island, and as Lecturer at Rutgers University, where she became the first instructor in the Art History program to integrate social media into the classroom. Lauren, who obtained her Ph.D. from Rutgers University, her M.A. from the Courtauld Institute, and her B.A. from Cornell University, is the recipient of numerous fellowships and awards, including a Fulbright US Student Fellowship to conduct research in France, an Andrew W. Mellon Dissertation Completion Fellowship and a post as pensionnaire étrangère at the École Normale Supérieure, where she was a doctoral exchange student.
Rens Lipsius is showing his most recent works made in the bush of Kenya this year.
He left on January 26th and returned on April 1st 2023.
In the bush he produced 68 studies in oil and upon his return, he started making lithographs from these studies.
Aside from the paintings there will be photographs as well.
The lithographs and photographs come in an edition of 30.

Through this project:
Create awareness,
Incite other artists, musicians, architects to go there, exchange and bring in their network
Raise funds for different local foundations
All works are made in the bush of Kenya at different locations.
A book “Kenya“ will be published and will be available for purchase at Rens Lipsius Studio.
The book “Zimbabwe II+III, From Dawn to Dusk”, will come out and will be presented during the exhibition.
