A Note from Glenyce, our Head Wanderer

Japan…A country not to be missed!! My first trip to this very foreign land was in 1986, and only the introduction of coffee, signs in English, and French bakery delights are some of the obvious inclusions since then!
Japan is place where efficiency is everything to the extent that hot coffee and cold beer are readily available from a vending machine. A culture of courtesy where hotel staff and transport providers wave you goodbye, and bowing is a greeting and farewell wherever you go.
There are way too many special intricacies to mention, the freshest food, friendliness and cleanliness are just a few. For over 200 years from 1603 to 1868 no-one was permitted to leave nor enter Japan, which has clearly preserved this unique culture.
I would say…’the Japanese have thought of everything’, even their toilets with heated seats, distinctive plumbing functions and musical installations invite lengthy conversions, along with the Onsens (Japanese bathing), to rejuvenate your muscles after a long walking day.
Like any trip, the guide enhances the journey, and we have exceptional world class leaders who are passionate about this extraordinary country.

Ancient temples and shrines, Japan on foot takes us through forests, up hills and into stunning nature trails. The two most popular walks are, the Nakasendo Way and the Kumano Kodo Trail.
You can choose to join both trips as we start the Nakasendo from Tokyo on October 26, which finishes with a 2 night break in Kyoto, Kyoto is the starting point for the Kumano Kodo commencing on November 5, finishing after breakfast on November 13 in Osaka.
If you only want a taste of Japan this time round, we can accommodate either trip separately.
Also due to popularity we have a date for the Shikoku Temple Trail, including Koyasan, in 2025, all details are below.
