Graduate Students of Color Mentoring Program

Applications for the Graduate Students of Color (GSoC) Mentoring Program are now open.

The UC Davis Cross Cultural Center (CCC) invites all Graduate / Professional Students of Color AND all Faculty/Staff to apply to our Graduate Students of Color (GSoC) Mentoring Program for the 2023-2024 academic year. The need to increase and improve faculty-graduate student mentorships within underrepresented groups was one key recommendation resulting from the Diversity Dialogues with the Dean in 2014. The GSoC Mentoring Program was created to address that recommendation. We invite ALL faculty and staff to apply. Faculty/Staff from marginalized groups are especially encouraged to participate.

Our primary goal is to assist in the retention of historically marginalized students in order to improve their representation in the UC Davis graduate community. We do this by providing graduate students of color structured opportunities to explore a variety of academic and career pathways. Application closes Dec 14th. Contact Analisa Brown at anabrown@ucdavis.edu with any questions. More information can be found in the pdfs attached.

Research Call for Participants: Black Mothers who are Undergraduate Students

Dissertation Research Call for Participants

I am reaching out to Black women who are currently juggling the roles of parent and student. If you're navigating the path of (1) earning a bachelor's degree while raising young children, (2) recently graduated, or (3) had to stop out due to extenuating circumstances, your experiences are crucial for a qualitative research study.

How to Get Involved:

If you meet the criteria and are willing to share your journey or someone you know is interested please complete the pre-selection form or email Brittani Williams; brittani.williams@ttu.edu

Objective:

I am conducting a study to delve into the challenges and triumphs faced by Black mothering students. Using a narrative inquiry research design, I aim to explore the complexities of your journey, focusing on the intersections of race, gender, parenthood, and student status.

Your Participation Matters:

Your insights will directly contribute to the development of targeted support services, programs, and initiatives tailored to address the specific needs of Black mothering students in higher education. Additionally, your stories will inform policymakers and funding decisions, advocating for changes that promote equity, diversity, and inclusion within educational institutions.

Impact of Your Voice:

By participating, you play a crucial role in shedding light on the experiences of Black parenting mothers in higher education. Your voice can contribute to creating a more equitable and supportive educational environment.

Thank you for considering being a part of this essential research. Your unique perspective can make a significant impact.

Candlelight Parade
Starting promptly at 6:00 p.m., the Candlelight Parade, co-sponsored by the Davis Food Co-op, will kick off from the Co-op's parking lot (corner of 6th & G Streets) and conclude at the E Street Plaza. Spectacular Silhouette Paintings | Sunday, December 3, 1 - 3 PM

Art in Action Family Art Workshops:The Pence Gallery invites children and their families to participate in our monthly family art workshops! Art in Action engages kids in art projects that are fun, creative, and collaborative with their family members. This is a drop-in program for ages 5-12, with no pre-registration required.

Projects are designed to introduce kids to making their own artwork by experimenting with creative ideas and materials. Our resident art teacher will introduce you to the wealth of possibilities in our upstairs classroom.

How it works:When you arrive, sign in at the front desk to pay with cash or card. There is a fee per child of $4 for Pence Members or $8 for Non-Members. A parent or adult caregiver is required to stay, but only has to pay for the project if they are also doing art. Stay as long or as short as you like over the two hour period. (Become a Member starting at $65/year and save!)

Let’s take painting to a whole new level! Create a one-of-a-kind landscape painting with a canvas, some acrylic paint, and a variety of fun silhouette stickers.
