Words from Father Ed
Dear All St. Patrick’s Members!

On Saturday, December 9th, the Vestry will meet to discuss St. Patrick’s mission statement and vision statement. We are looking toward the challenges of the next couple of years, in lay and clergy leadership and the administration of the parish concerning our ministries and the funding to do those ministries. We will be reporting soon on these deliberations.

Next Sunday, December 17th, we will report the total number and total amount of pledges that have been given to St. Patrick’s for 2024. We are aware that we will still need to present a deficit budget, but we are hopeful that the deficit will be smaller than the past years.
This week I will be away on a retreat with other Diocesan leaders on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday December 11-13. The Rev. Carol Luther will preside at the Wednesday Eucharist with healing on December 12th

A reminder of the Advent program happening each Wednesday after the Eucharist healing. Please note the flyers and the announcement below.

A reminder also of the St. Patrick’s Christmas Concert happening this coming Saturday, December 16th  at 6:00 p.m. in the church. See the flyers for more information. Also, if you can, join the Kenwood Community Church next Sunday for the Kenwood Sing-along at the Gazebo near the church.

Finally, a gracious Thank You to the Pastoral Care Committee for their Cookie Brigade and to the volunteers who put together the children’s baskets last Sunday. Holiday greetings and Holiday Sweets, what could be better!

Thank you and God Bless you.

Father Ed

Christmas Cookies. Cookies, Cookies!

The holidays are fast approaching, and the Pastoral Care Ministry is planning a cookie treat box delivery to our parishioners who are unable to attend services and fellowship because of various limitations.  We at St. Patrick’s want to bring them Christmas greetings, holiday cheer, and Christmas treats to let them know that they are valued members of our church family and that we miss them.

We need approximately 60 dozen cookies for our gift-giving, and we are asking St. Patrick’s wonderful cookie angels to make 2 to 3 dozen cookies each, each cookie no larger than 2 inches in diameter, in order to fill the gift boxes.  Please bring your cookies to St. Patrick’s the week of December 3 – 10.

We will be packing the boxes after church on December 10, 2023, and sending people to deliver the boxes and our loving Christmas wishes to our members who are unable to join us for worship, fellowship, and activities.

We are blessed to have many excellent cookie bakers so please join us in this ministry.  Most cookies freeze well so start now!

There will be cookie-baking sign-up sheets in the narthex and in Stevenson Hall for you to sign up to contribute to this worthy event.  There will also be sign-up sheets for those who are able to volunteer to help deliver the gift boxes.

Thank you for your help on this beloved St. Patrick's Christmas tradition!

Food Bank Distribution!
Greetings Friends! Check out Eleanor's thankful note to her volunteers from Monday, November 13. The team will return again on November 27

Dear All,

Thank you to Anna/Joel, Natalie, Olivia, Carolyn, new driver Adam, and rep Arturo.  Tonight 58 families/199 individuals received food from REFB in St Pat's parking lot!  The darkness brought on cold, but we charged on with REFB lights, St Pat's parking lot lights and whatever jackets we had on!  The deed got done!

REFB approved that we change our distribution time to 4:30 - 5:30 (formerly 5:0 - 6:00) on our regular 2nd and 4th Mondays.  This allows us to have more daylight and for Arturo to be back at REFB  30 minutes earlier.

Our next distribution is Monday, Dec 11.  We will give out a bag of candy to each family and bags to each child (ages 12 - 3) in each family.  Many thanks to those who contributed candy and misc other small items which will be included in the children bags.  Special thanks to Sue Hunt who made 60 bags of really cute seasonal cloth bags for 60 families!

Scheduled volunteers for Dec 11 are Pam/Larry, Carolyn, Natalie, Olivia and Kerin.  But, any and all volunteers are encouraged to come to the Dec 10 food and candy distribution.  If possible, wear any festive attire you may have. Seasonal music will fill the air as food and candy are distributed.

It just is so rewarding to make a visible difference!

At each distribution there are new clients.  This speaks to the escalating need for food that so many are experiencing.  I continue to thank God that hunger is not in my immediate future.

Dec 11 will be our only December distribution .  Our 4th scheduled day of the month is Christmas Day.  I can only hope our regular clients are well awear.

Thank you to the many who donated a LOT of candy for St Pat's Dec 11 food distribution in our parking lot.  Special thanks to Sue Hunt who made 60 seasonal draw string cloth bags, to be given to each family, and to Beth Lewis who donated 120 containers of silly putty for the children.
Thanks also to the 12+ who answered the call for help during the announcements in church, and packed 126 cloth and paper bags of candy December 2 during Coffee Hour! What would have taken many hours for one, was reduced to about 25 minutes!  The "candy crew" packed quickly!
There will be many happy faces at our Dec 11 distribution because of the contributions of candy, labor and love.  There were also happy recipients of the left over candy at F.I.S.H. on December 5!

Eleanor

St. Patrick's Hosted
Nomadic Shelter ~ December 2nd
December 2nd was our last Nomadic Shelter.  We had roughly 19 guests, 4 staff from Redwood Gospel Mission and 9 or so volunteers.
Our menu this time was hamburgers, French fries, green beans, fruit salad and cookies.  The volunteers preparing, cooking and serving the meal are: Karen Borgfeldt, Karl Mutch, Shona Burns, Laurie Boone-Hogen, Beth Lewis, Eleanor Albon, Bernadette Gibb, Rich and Betsy Randolph.  Anne Phillips and Rev. Carol Luther made cookies!
Setting up the room were Raman Doss, Eleanor Albon, Javier Cabrales, and Marcia Ronchetti.
Our guests included a mother and two young children, ages 2 and 5.  Eleanor is made treat bags for them and Beth Lewis is brought stuffed toys and PlayDoh.
Our guests enjoyed their meal, a warm place to sleep and our St. Patrick’s hospitality.  Please keep them in your prayers as they work to reshape their lives.

~Betsy Randolph

Our New Sexton at St. Patrick's Church
Meet Raman Doss! He is a Sonoma County native who recently moved back after being gone for almost two decades. He currently lives in Kenwood and he is enjoying spending time with friends and family. He is looking forward being a part of the community and giving back to the town he grew up in.

New Tenants at St. Patrick's!
St. Patrick's Family!

We would like to officially welcome new tenants Shirah and Nathan to St. Patrick's and Kenwood Community! Shirah and Nathan moved into the studio apartment a few weeks ago. They are a lovely couple who are excited to begin their new journey here in Kenwood!

Blessing Bags

56 Blessing Bags were delivered from St. Patrick’s last Sunday!  What a generous contribution the people of St. Patrick’s made to help our brothers and sisters right here in Sonoma County.
The attendant at Redwood Gospel Mission was really pleased to have these Blessing Bags.  He explained that one way they use them is to provide a meal for people that are taking classes at the Mission.
The next deadline for Blessing Bags is December 10, the second Sunday of the month.  Please consider helping with this ministry.  If you have questions, please contact Betsy Randolph at (408)981-1001 or email at Rjurny@gmail.com.  There are lists of contents on a table in the narthes.

Here’s what goes in the Blessing Bags:
1 pop top can of pasta with meat
1 juice box
1 granola-type bar
1 package of crackers with cheese or peanut butter
A napkin and sturdy plastic fork
Place everything in a quart-sized plastic bag.  The stretchable Glad bags work very well.  If you like, you can include a short hopeful message.

You can drop off your blessing bags in the blessing bag box located in the narthex or deliver to the Randolph's home: 8399 Oakmont Dr., Santa Rosa, CA 95409.
Please call Betsy Randolph for questions at (408)981-2024.
