Hybrid Program starts at 7 p.m.
A half hour talk about how an open mind and willingness to make mistakes has led to interesting swatches and eventually collections of new designs in my own work.Slides showing notebook pages, inspiration images and design process demonstrate how a small idea can grow with experimentation and sometimes even mistakes become favorite new stitches. Xandy Peters is best-known as the innovator of the stacked-stitch technique, especially the Fox Paws pattern. Xandy has been published in many magazines including Vogue Knitting, Twist Collective, KnitsceneKnitty, and Pom Pom Quarterly. Xandy’s patterns can be found on Ravelry or at xandypeters.com

Announcement

The board will be reviewing and changing the bylaws of the guild.

The proposed changes center around the board member term limits and the leadership structure. Currently, board positions are held for two years and the board has a president and no vice president. We are looking to shorten all board member terms to 1 year and add the position of vice president. A person who serves as VP would serve 1 year as VP and then serve the next year as president. The new position would be a two year appointment but holding two different jobs with different responsibilities for each year.

Advantages:
  • Guild leadership would have more continuity: the incoming president would have been on the board and familiar with its working for a year before taking on the president's role.
  • The guild would always know who will be president next.
  • The president would have a right hand person to step in and take over duties if they are ill/unable to attend a meeting.
  • 12 months is a shorter term and it might be easier to ask someone to be president for a year than it is to ask for two years.
Disadvantages:
  • A new vice president would have to be recruited every year.
Join us January 17th 2024 at 6pm
The group that is reviewing the changes will hold a virtual meeting open to all guild members to hear feedback and suggestions on the proposed changes. The link for the meeting will be made available on our website. If you can not attend the virtual meeting please send comments to info@puddletownknittersguild.com. We hope to  have a draft of the changed bylaws ready to be reviewed by the general membership in February, and to approve them in an official meeting in March 2024. Thank you for your attention!

Service Project

Thank you and Congratulations to our Service Knitters!

We are helping to warm many, many foster families this winter with our donation of over 150 items to Boxes of Love and With Love. These organizations serve foster families throughout the Portland area by providing needed clothing and comfort items, often at a moment's notice. Your knitting brought big smiles to the faces of the team members from our partner organizations who accepted the donations.

Congratulations to the knitters/crocheters who won prizes in the random drawings for the yearlong blanket challenge and to the winners of our most prolific service knitter award and the lucky random draw winner for the year. Who are they? Come to the December meeting to find out!

Who will we knit/crochet for next year? You'll have to wait and see. Our next partner will be announced at January's meeting. But you don't have to wait to start knitting — we just learned that they really want lots of hats and fingerless mitts!

Speaking of next year, we are looking for one or more folks to join the Service Knitting Committee. The workload is light; the joy of working with our partner organizations is great. Please email outreach@puddletownknittersguild.com if you are interested in learning more.

February Guild Meeting

Sivia Harding
Roosimine and Vikkel, a Perfect Pair

Roosimine is an Estonian inlay colorwork technique that is as easy as pie - you simply lay in the contrast color in as you go - it’s not even knitted! It produces a delightfully embossed texture that is unlike anything else. Vikkel braids, which look like a horizontal line of knitting, are incredibly complementary to Roosimine, and the two techniques are often found together, a perfect pair! Sivia Harding has worked with fiber and art since she can remember. She is known for exceptional designs including lace, garments, accessories, and imaginative Moebius creations. She has been widely published and on Ravelry as Sivia Harding Knit Design.
