News from the Music Task Force

The Board established the PBUUC Music Force to guide our congregation in developing a plan for the future of music at Paint Branch.

The Music Task Force’s immediate tasks are recommendations for the hiring of an interim pianist and how to provide music on Sunday’s and at other services through the holiday season. The longer-term goal is to reimagine music at Paint Branch. The Task Force’s work would likely culminate in recommendations for paid and volunteer resources to continue the high-quality music that is part of our traditions.

The Music Task Force members are Kathy Bartolomeo, Jim Flaherty, Jeanne Judd (Facilitator), Mary Rooker (Board Liaison to Task Force), Carol Carter Walker, and Rev. Ann Kadlecek. They will be supported by Patty Daukantas and Kathi Yu, Personnel Committee members, and a local UU Music Consultant, authorized by the Board.

We encourage you to share your thoughts and feelings with the Task Force at <musictaskforce@pbuuc.org>. Your input is invaluable, and together we can make the future of music at Paint Branch bright. We look forward to this new chapter of exploration and innovation within our church family. Thank you for your continued support.
Musically yours,

The PBUUC Music Task Force

As always. Feel free to contact the Board through our email: bot@pbuuc.org.

See you in church!

 Leo
Board Chair

From the Treasurers

Hello Fellow Paint Brancher,

Best wishes for a wonderful holiday season!  And a year-end reminder from your Treasurers:

It’s a good time to make sure your pledge contributions are up to date for this Church fiscal year through the end of December 2023 (which, of course, is the tax calendar year). If you are not sure of your end of the year status, just contact Treasurer@pbuuc.org.

Thank you all for what you do!
Treasurers (Liz and Tess)

Invitation to Make Music at Paint Branch ♫♫

Hello Everyone,

This year we are planning something new for the Christmas Eve service and you are invited to join! Get ready to make some music as we gather to serenade the season with beloved Christmas carols and accompany the Chalice Dancers. We have a local UU musician who will be supporting us. If you have family or friends visiting, they are also welcome.

If you aren’t available for Christmas Eve, but are interested in joining us in the future, please let us know that too!

We have two opportunities to prepare for Christmas Eve. The first is Sunday December 17th after the service for about one hour. And second, Sunday December 24th starting at 1:45 pm. All are welcome for either or both. Please contact us at MusicTaskForce@pbuuc.org if you are interested!

Harmoniously Yours,

The Music Task Force ♫♫

Chalice Dancers had a wonderful “Farewell” to the PBUUC

The Chalice Dancers had a wonderful “farewell” to the PBUUC Glen on Saturday 11/25. We danced and played and reflected on our time there. Next week we will share some video highlights of the dancing and the service that Karen Scrivo led. We enjoyed sharing the leaves that we gathered with some at Sunday’s Service 11/26 for their yards/composts.

And the dance goes on… The Chalice Dancers

The Paint Branch Racial Climate Coalition (RCC) will meet on Thursday, 12/14 from 7-9 over Zoom. The purpose of the RCC is to promote congregation-wide collaboration on creating a healthy racial climate at PBUCC.

The RCC brings together representatives from each Committee and Affinity Group, Board Members, Church Officers, and Staff. Members and Friends who are not affiliated with any Committee or Affinity Group but who have an interest in this work are also welcome.

Your ideas, energy and commitment to creating a healthy racial climate at PBUUC are welcome and needed. If you attended prior meetings, no need to RSVP for this one. If you haven't attended a meeting and would like to participate, please RSVP to Deb Rubenstein at hrrs95@gmail.com to get the Zoom link and the agenda. The Zoom link is also here:

It was an enriching experience during the weekend workshop and the filming at the National Arboretum in September. We hope that it brings you a moment of reflection this Thanksgiving Holiday.

SPIRITUALITY CIRCLE

Spirituality Circle meets on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month at 11. Spirituality Circle is one of the many ways we come together at Paint Branch to find, develop and enhance our sense of belonging in community. It’s about encouragement and curious exploration of a variety of spiritual practices that connect us with the sacred. We support each other in our individual challenges and pursuits.

We are using a curriculum called “Faith Forward” again. In this series we are introduced to and asked to “try on” many different spiritual practices. We are asked to ‘keep an open mind and see what comes up for you’. Our bodies and minds mature. The same is true of our spirits. Practices that may not have served us well at one point in our lives, may serve you now. We are encouraged to approach these practices with “new eyes” and a sense of curiosity.

Our next meeting is Sunday, Dec. 10 at 11 when we will continue our discussion on Session 4 – “Prayer.” Attending previous sessions is not necessary for attending any session but if you want information about them you are encouraged to look at the Handouts available below.

Hope you will join us. Here is the new link:
