2023 was a productive year for IWF’s Education Freedom Center. We celebrated numerous education freedom victories, exposed the pernicious influence of teachers unions, emphasized the importance of prioritizing academics over activism, dispelled ludicrous book “ban” myths, and elevated the voices of policymakers and parents on the Students Over Systems podcast.
2024 may bring the “perfect storm” to the K-12 education world when the $190 billion in temporary “emergency” federal K-12 ESSER funding winds down. Districts that caved to pressure from teachers unions and hired permanent staff with temporary federal funding will scramble to adjust to post-ESSER budgets, especially in areas with cratering enrollment. To prepare for the looming K-12 “fiscal cliff” drama, watch our recent The K-12 Education System’s Imminent Financial Chaos event.
