JANUARY 2024

Making Highgate a Better Place to Live and Work
The many memorable events of 2023 ended with Carols in Pond Square, once again a resounding success. Looking forward, in January 2024 we have a talk on the true story of Richard (Dick) Whittington and the Lior Solomons Wise Trio in 10A. Brighten up your January and buy your tickets!

But 2024 will also bring its challenges. Highgate Hill and High Street form the boundary between Camden and Haringey and have been neglected. Several members have reported dangerous driving on Highgate Hill and near misses on the crossing, while the High Street is now a comparatively poor shopping environment due to the degradation by traffic. At the same time the Old Bus Stand is a huge opportunity and we will be pressing for it to be brought into productive use - with our Christmas market in December we demonstrated what can be achieved.

With best wishes to our readers for a happy new year. We hope you enjoy our newsletter - feedback is always welcome. Just hit reply on this email.
NEWS
More than 1,000 attend Carols in Pond Square

Carols in Pond Square this year was a great success, thanks to the hard work of over 25 Highgate Society volunteers. The rain cleared up just in time and our two chosen charities, North London Hospice and Jacksons Lane, for their Christmas Day Lunch, raised over £2,200. Read this report in the Ham & High.
Christmas Market in the Old Bus Stand

It was lovely to see the centre of the village so buzzy on a cold day at the beginning of December. In spite of the bitterly cold weather, we demonstrated that a small market in the Old Bus Stand would add to the commercial life of the village.
Dangerous driving

We desperately need measures to slow down the traffic on Highgate Hill between Bisham Gardens and Hornsey Lane. Click here to read about a recent incident.
Tidy-up programme for 2024 published
