12 days of BOB coming up….

A dozen ways to celebrate a dozen months of S/VBOB

Quite a year up in Alaska. No snow on the ground in Sitka, yet, but it is working it’s way down the mountain. We are a little jealous of our snow-bound friends north of us. For now we’ll just admire it from afar and keep dusting the snow shovel.

Please enjoy our twelve months of BOB.

In January the crew ski-bummed up to the Yukon for some friend time and a lot of exploring Haines and Whitehorse.

February found us in Roatan, Honduras for a little sun, tradewind sailing and diving fun.

March brought Blain’s first grand-nephews. Teeny twins Jack and Wesley. The captain’s already assigning crew responsibilities aboard BOB.

The herring return brought hundreds of grey whales in April to Sitka Sound. There were also lots of humpback whales, but the greys have greatly increased over the last three years and put on an incredible show.

We look forward to the craziness of May in Sitka as the sailing season ramps up. Our introduction to sailing classes shared some beautiful days on the water.

June brings back the king salmon and chinook breezes. BOB enjoyed some incredible sailing days.

Full-on summer really kicks it in July. The wildlife is enjoying the bounty of SE Alaska and we enjoy watching them.

We treated the crew to a couple of fun days in Petersburg and found some creative ways on SKIP to “beat the heat”.

Our paddleboard FLIP got a little fun in September. Are we already in Autumn? Oh no!

Sadly Blain lost his mom in October. This photo was taken in 2010 on her first ever sail - onboard Oystercatcher - our first sailboat. We were honored to show her this life we lead, and will always miss her enthusiasm for all things Alaska.

As winter creeps down the hills, we launched our wee rafts and explored some lovely lakes nearby Sitka. Oh and of coarse tried our best to blend in with the local wildlife. Maybe not the best idea during deer hunting season…

December brought the crew a huge change. We bought a house! We haven’t been landlubbers for 14 years, but are re-learning the joys of painting, wiring, plumbing, and - wait - that sounds like boat maintenance. Oh what have we done?!?

Once again, Sailboat BOB made the cover of the Catalina sailboats quarterly magazine. We are really proud of this photo from and incredibly calm day in Glacier Bay.

Shoot us an email. We would love to hear from you. And by the way - we have Trips open in July(!) still. Grab them quick.

The captain and crew of Sailboat BOB wishes you all the happiest of holidays and the joy of the season. Peace be with you all - and a healthy and prosperous New Year.
