Destination Canada Joins the Global Sustainable Tourism Council 

Strengthening the organization’s commitment to creating, promoting and facilitating a sustainable tourism economy, and as a signal of its intention to support sustainable tourism policies, Destination Canada has joined the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC)

The GSTC establishes and manages global standards for sustainable travel and tourism, known as the GSTC Criteria, and Destination Canada has signed up to fulfill the Destination Criteria for public policy-makers and destination managers.

Canada Showcase Europe 2023 Brings Industry Together in Hamburg, Germany

Canada Showcase Europe is a tourism trade show that brings together Canadian suppliers with European and British tourism professionals and media over a three-day marketplace to promote Canadian destinations, tourism products and experiences.

Destination Canada, in cooperation with the largest delegation ever of 110 Canadian sellers (and 160 delegates), made its mark in Hamburg, Germany from November 14-17. Over 15,000 meetings took place between the sellers and 122 buyer delegates from 101 European companies.

TED@DestinationCanada Speakers Represent Canada at Showcase Europe

Cohen Bradley, a master of ceremonies from Haida Gwaii, BC, delivered an opening ceremony at Showcase Europe, followed by an excerpt of his TED@DC talk on the rich cultural heritage of the Haida People.

Destination Canada Teams Up With Comedian Nicole Byer to Launch “Canadian Crash Course” Campaign

Destination Canada and comedian Nicole Byer (host of the popular Netflix show, “Nailed It!”) have teamed up to create “Canadian Crash Course,” a new virtual course designed to encourage travelers to step out of their comfort zone and gain confidence navigating winter like an expert, like a Canadian. 

After completing the “Canadian Crash Course,” participants will have the opportunity to put their newfound Canadian winter expertise to the test for a big reward: the chance to win a round-trip flight to Canada this winter.

VIA Rail Canada recently reached its 100,000th booking with its new reservation system which offers passengers an easy and intuitive booking process and a wide range of new functionalities.

“Return of the Market” Series by the Canadian Inbound Tourism Association

The Canadian Inbound Tourism Association (CITAP+) believes it is critical for all market segments to understand how to work together to support inbound travel. To bridge connections, CITAP+ introduced the Return of the Market Educational Series. This series kicks off with a focus on the China market.

September Overnight Arrivals

In September 2023, Canada welcomed 1.9 million monthly visitors, bringing September arrivals back up to 86% of pre-pandemic levels following a slowdown in the recovery pace in August.

Visitation from Mexico (94%) and the US (92%) recorded the strongest recovery pace this month. Year-to-date arrivals for the first three quarters of 2023 reached 14.5 million, 81% of the arrivals recorded over the same period in 2019.
