2024 Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) Request for Proposals
Announcement Date: December 12, 2023
Deadline for administrative review: January 22, 2024
Submission Date: January 26, 2024 (by 5 PM AKT)
*Awards Announced: ~ February 29, 2024
*Funding Period: 08-25-2024 - August, 2025
*Funding is dependent on the renewal of the AK INBRE grant.
The Alaska IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (AK INBRE) is supported by a grant from the National Institutes of Health. The primary objective of Alaska INBRE Graduate Research Assistantship program is to support graduate students engaged in biomedical and One Health research with mentorship from UA biomedical or health science faculty. Projects that align with the AK INBRE One Health theme will be given priority. Alaska INBRE will fund up to eight (8) Graduate Research Assistantships but funding will be dependent on renewal of the AK INBRE grant, which will be determined in spring, 2024.

Kathryn Van Eck, PhD, of Johns Hopkins University and the Kennedy Krieger Institute will present "Undergraduate Fellowship MCHC RISE-UP." The presentation will describe the purpose of the MCH RISE-UP offered for undergraduate students in the Center for Diversity in Public Health Leadership Training at Kennedy Krieger Institue. We will discuss the program objectives, mentorship model, and training activities. We will review the application process for scholars and mentors as well.

International Congress for Circumpolar Health (ICCH18) - June 18-20, 2024 in Yellowknife, Canada. The ICCH is held every 3-4 years. It is open to anyone interested in circumpolar issues. The ICCH participants include scientists, researchers, health care professionals, policy analysts, government representatives and community leaders. This is a fun, exciting meeting of scientific and cultural exchange with others living and working in the Circumpolar regions. The Canadian Society for Circumpolar Health is currently planning and organizing the 18th International Congress for Circumpolar Health (ICCH18). The Congress will take place on June 18 – 20, 2024 in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. ICCH18 webpage: https://csch.ca/csch-events/international-congress-for-circumpolar-health-icch/ . Please consider submitting an abstract for this meeting. The American Society has travel scholarship support, by application for members to attend the ICCH18. Details to be announced at a later date. DEBUT 2024 Challenge (Design by Biomedical Undergraduate Teams)
The National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) has released a Notice of Information for the 2024 DEBUT Challenge. Started in 2012, NIBIB's annual DEBUT Challenge has solicited design projects that develop innovative solutions to unmet health and clinical problems. Areas of interest for the biomedical engineering projects include, but are not limited to: diagnostics, therapeutics, technologies for underserved populations or low-resource settings, point-of-care systems, precision medicine, preventive medicine, technologies to aid individuals with disabilities, and technologies for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care of diseases and illnesses such as cancer, HIV/AIDS, or diabetes.
