The count down for New Year has started, only 12 days to go!

How are you welcoming CYP and their families in the New Year?
1. The 2024 Season of Lay Ministry runs from the 6th January to the 27th January. Try out the all age talk, all age hymns and activities for ministry with children and young people here.

2. We would love to go for a coffee with you to catch up with you to see how you are. Choose a good time for a coffee/hot drink and a catch up using this form

3. We've got exciting news, we're piloting Catalyst 30K, a dynamic, 7 month training course from March 2024. Whether you are new to the role or have been doing the job for years, it will benefit your ministry with children and young people. If this is something that you would like to do, you can register interest for Catalyst 30K here.
 
 You can find more information about Catalyst 30K here. It aims to equip and connect those who work with children and young people in the local church. It’s free and fully funded by the Church of England.

Join Joe Lowther, CEO of KICK, a charity that aims to transform young people’s lives, with God’s love, through sport and support. KICK does this through values-driven physical education, street dance, mentoring, chaplaincy in schools and community KICK Academies.

You’re invited! 10am-2pm on Saturday 27th January, come along and find out more about the different types of ministries such as Pastoral, Pioneer, Reader and Children and Young people and more.  Explore the opportunities for training, and join in some fun CYP activities for all ages including tea and donuts (families welcome)! 
Try out CYP Lay Ministry in action, be inspired to sign up for a course and take a step forward with your CYP Ministry.
Listening groups-We need your help!

If you are interested in being a part of this, please fill in the listening and responding group form here by the 29th January.

We are reimagining how we hear the voice of children and young people in 2024.  We want to hear what is important to them and concerns them locally, at school and in the world and empower the children and youth to take steps to address these things. If you have a school faith group, a children's group, a youth group or a choir with children and/or youth in it, we would love to hear from you.

We are hoping that the outcome can be a  ‘You Said, We Did/ We supported you to do’ approach, so that children and young people see that they can make a difference and that they are being heard and responded to by those that walk alongside them.

It can also  help you walk alongside CYP. In the pilot, the youth said that they used social media to engage with faith related content. Their leaders and the youth are now thinking about how they can be digital disciples, using their online presence to bear witness to their faith, thinking through which content they have found and would find helpful.

Music can be a fantastic way to engage with children and young people and their faith. In the Diocese, there is a lot of wonderful work going on involving church choirs and other musical opportunities with children and young people.  Don't work in a silo, come together with others who are doing the same thing.

Do you work with children?

Join the 9 month Aurora Children's Ministry course, become a Commissioned Children's Worker and gain a qualification which is recognised throughout the Diocese of Southwark. 
  • Deepen your understanding of ministry to children in today’s settings. 
  • Identify what is not working so well in your church and make changes. 
To gain the qualification you also need to complete the Bishop’s Certificate in the second year.  There is also an Aurora Youth Ministry course in September 2025 (you could begin that qualification by taking the Bishop’s Certificate first).
 

To join the course you will:

 
  1. Go through a discernment process led by the Lay Ministry Team
  2.  Complete the 9 month Aurora Course, followed by the 9 month Southwark Diocese Bishop's Certificate.
