Give Back to Baltimore's Urban Farmers

We set an ambitious goal of raising $10,000 before the end of the year. Your contribution, no matter how small, can make a big difference in helping us reach that goal. With your help, we can continue to provide resources and support to Baltimore's local farmers and community gardeners, promoting sustainable and equitable food production in our city.

Your donation will not only help us achieve our fundraising goal, but also contribute to creating a healthier, more resilient, and more just Baltimore. Please consider making a donation today. We thank everyone who made a mighty drop in the bucket on Giving Tuesday and appreciate your continued support. 💚

From the Field

Exciting news: our presence at the Waverly 32nd Street Farmers Market will continue throughout the winter season! Our dedicated members from Strength to Love II will be leading the stand. Make sure to drop by every other week to enjoy fresh, nutritious produce grown right here in Baltimore and show your support for our urban farms!

Black Butterfly Bulletin

At the beginning of November, volunteers and our farm team took to the fields for an exciting harvest at the Black Butterfly Teaching Farm. After 2 days of harvesting, we finally cleared the 10,000 sq. ft. plot of the rebellion dent corn we sowed back in May as a part of our SARE research grant! Following this bountiful harvest, we transported the corn to our farmer friends and fellow grain producers at Next Step Produce.

Farmer Heinz used his specialized machinery to help us shell the corn from the cob and then sift and clean the kernels. It was amazing to see this extensive process in action! After being sifted and cleaned, the kernels were packaged and stored until we return next week to complete the final milling process. This single harvest will yield 3 products: grits, cornmeal and corn flour. Stay tuned for the final weights!

Our team is thrilled to delve into research regarding sustainable and profitable methods for cultivating legumes and grain crops in urban settings. We can't wait to share the final products with all of you. Look out for them at the upcoming BLK ASS FLEA MARKET on Dec. 16th and at the Waverly stand.
