It is with a heavy heart that we share that Dr. John Cernech, former Creighton Vice President/Vice Provost for Student Life, passed away on Friday, December 1. He died peacefully surrounded by his family. His funeral will be held in Florida. Please pray for his family as they grieve this tremendous loss.
Sincere sympathy is shared with everyone in Student Life and others on campus who had the great fortune of working with and being in relationship with Dr. Cernech, who served Creighton University in the VP role for a striking 31 years. The combined loss, in such a short period of time, of two tremendous leaders who dedicated their professional lives to Creighton students and the Division of Student Life is unreal. The impact and legacy of Drs. Cernech and Winegard have not only touched thousands of individual lives, but also laid the foundation for the structure, the work, and the ethic of care that we continue to extend to support students on campus today. Each of us as professionals stands on the shoulders of leaders before us – so we lift up Dr. Cernech’s leadership legacy.
