Why Grow is in My Will
Jill Tompkins sat down with Margaret Scholl to gain a better understanding of what Grow means to her and why she is leaving a bequest to Grow.
How did you become connected to Grow?
My brother Stevie came to live with me in 1993. I was 38 years old and working full-time.
Stevie had been in a different program and the transportation was so unreliable. He was just a number there. Grow was unbelievable. They cared about Stevie. If Stevie was not outside, they would call. They were incredibly reliable. They gave him such a life in the community and friendships.
I joined the Board around 2015. Stephen passed and I am still on the Board, now as Board President, because there are still people here who need help.
Was it an easy decision to put Grow in your will?
Absolutely. Our decision was, OK, when we pass, we have three children, so our estate will get divided in thirds for them, and then 5% will go to Grow and 5% to Stars. Because we just have to.
Was it an easy process?
Yes. We went to see a financial planner, who then put us in touch with a lawyer to write our will. We knew Grow would be in the mix - I am always amazed by people who have the heart to work with the people we serve. And they truly have a heart for what they are doing.
What should others know about the bequest process?
See how easy it is to leave a little something as a thank you.
