TechTello | Brain Tickle

Hello,

Here is your weekly Brain Tickle Newsletter from TechTello - Learn and be better everyday.

LADDER OF INFERENCE

The Ladder of Inference is a mental model developed by organizational psychologist Chris Argyris that explains how we make decisions. Each step in the decision-making process is represented by a rung on the ladder. You start at the bottom, then climb each rung before making a decision and taking action. Going up and down the ladder usually happen unconsciously and very quickly in your brain, which leads to gaps in your thinking and reasoning process, makes you jump to conclusions and results in bad decisions. By consciously employing Ladder of Inference, you can enhance decision-making by encouraging a more thoughtful and reasoned approach.

ARTICLE OF THE WEEK

"Higher up in the hierarchy you go, the bigger are the problems you need to face. Not only do you need to deal with complexity, what others expect from you goes up as well. It’s also lonely at the top, which means there’s less feedback on how you’re doing and what you can do to improve. This is where most leaders go wrong. Instead of paying attention to their leadership style, they pack their schedules with meetings and run with a long list of things to do."

EXPLORE

"The inferences we draw about the thoughts, feelings and motivations of others are a core building block of our relationships, but these inferences require effort and can often be misguided. Science tells us that relationships are more important than ever – the key ingredient to our happiness, as important to our health as not smoking."

THINK
"'I have no self-control. What should I do?' is a common question/struggle in the era of materialism. People often think of self-control as something you either have or you don’t. But the reality is that self-discipline is not a unique object you find somewhere in the arena of life and keep forever by your side. It’s more of a decision – you either choose to exert self-discipline in the present moment, or you choose to give in to temptation."

I have no self-control

QUOTE TO REMEMBER

Ask questions, practice gentle and kind communication, and you will see how many doors of opportunity will open for you, and then all you have to do is step in and explore.
