Burning Bowl Ceremony with Linda Lane

Sunday, Dec. 31st
10:30am
Sanctuary Main in-person only

As we continue to seek out the stories of hope in our world in the new year, there are also some things we would very much like to put behind us from the old year.
Our Burning Bowl service is a time of releasing what we no longer need, and manifesting what we would like to see for 2024. We invite you to let go of anything that no longer serves you through the powerful and symbolic release of the burning bowl ritual.

Upcoming Children and Youth Events at Northlake!

This year our RE Sunday will be a youth-led service on the theme of mystery! We will be co-creating the service, choosing songs and readings, sharing music and a short message on how we manage uncertainties and lean into the mystery that life offers. Children and youth can also participate as chalice lighters, celebrants, and musicians!
  • December 24 - no morning service! Join us for Christmas Eve service at 7pm.

Welcome Kathryn Smith Derksen

Kathryn will begin as our new Music Director on January 1st.
The first choir rehearsal is scheduled for Sunday Jan. 7th at 12:45.

Here is Kathryn's introductory message: I'm honored to be joining the community at Northlake UU. I'm a musician and director who's worked with a range of choirs, most recently a community choir in South Africa, where our family lived as peace workers. I am a member of nearby Evergreen Mennonite Church who loves good music and embraces non-violence as a way of life. I specialize in early music and international music. I'm a wife, (my husband Dan, will sometimes join us as a bass singer), and also a mother of two young adults.

Minister's Discretionary Fund

Each Christmas Eve we hold a special financial collection that goes into the Minister's Discretionary Fund.  All the money in this fund is used to help members of our congregation during times of crisis, such as the loss of housing or in emergency situations.  Sometimes this is also used for food cards or special needs for members of the larger community, at the discretion of the minister.  The Christmas Eve collection is the only source of finances for this fund, so please be generous in support of our community!
