Dear Honorable Sponsors, Vendors, Volunteers, Coordinators, and Community Members,

We hope this message finds you in good health and high spirits. Reflecting on the success of our 1st Lunar New Year Parade, we are reminded of the incredible enthusiasm and support generously bestowed upon us by our community supporting our town.

The first parade revival began amidst racial-hate, safety, and economic challenges but ended with radiant sunshine and beaming smiles. The OPD motorcycles and the Toishan Lion dance set the festivities in motion, and our visitors stayed to enjoy Chinatown’s diverse pan-Asian dining, evoking nostalgia and comfort after the 2-hour parade.

In case you missed the highlights, we invite you to relive the magic of the OCIC 2023 Parade festival through a 2-minute reads on KQED/NPR: [Link to KQED/NPR article] and Chinese article on World Journal:  https://www.worldjournal.com/wj/amp/story/121519/6936785

The first revival was a testament to your dedication and commitment to our community. Your unwavering support warmed our hearts, even during the cold and windy winter days. We eagerly anticipate your presence at our 2nd annual LNY parade next year!

Mark your calendars for another historic event — Lunar New Year Parade on February 18, 2024, in Oakland Chinatown! This parade, celebrating the Lunar New Year, is the first of its kind in Oakland's history and to celebrate the Year of the Dragon!

The Lunar New Year is a celebration observed by two billion people in the United States and around the world. Governor Newsom's official signing of AB 2596 into law on September 30, 2022, marked a significant milestone in recognizing and addressing the inequalities faced by Asian Pacific Islander (API) communities. Your attendance at this parade would not only boost our community but also send a powerful message of unity, strength, and support against hate.
