Chess Updates

2012 Brain Freeze Results
Four Montessori students joined forces with fellow members of the Great Lakes Chess Association last Saturday when they traveled to Columbus to compete at the 2012 Brain Freeze Chess Tournament.  The tournament allowed "club play", which means players from different schools could come together to form a single team.  Normally teams are limited to a player's school.

Playing for GLCA Elementary K-6 Team were Montessori students Jeremy Mahoney and Jared Bechstein.  Also playing on the GLCA team was former Montessori student Thomas Chang who now lives in Pittsburgh. The team of Bechstein, Mahoney and Chang combined their efforts to win 2nd Place in a tough section.
In the Unrated K-3 Section it was Yeowoon and Jaewoon Jung joined by their former teammate Anne Chang to take 4th place among teams.  Yeowoon led her team with 3 out of 5 points, while brother Jaewoon scored 2.5 points.

Thomas Chang and his sister Anne moved with their parents from BG in October to SW Pennsylvania when their father landed a new job.  During the reunion, Thomas and Anne said they missed their friends and teachers at the Montessori.  When asked about their new school, both agreed it was "ok".  Then Anne quickly turned to a friend and added "It doesn't even have a chess club!  Can you believe that?!"

Item Needed: A refrigerator

The staff lounge refrigerator has died. :( We are in need of gently-used, regular sized refrigerator if anyone has one they are willing to donate. Many thanks!

Kids' Gala

On Saturday, February 18, from 6:00pm-7:30pm our 3-6 grade students are invited to a dance in the Oberheau Room.  Parents should drop off their child at 6:00pm and pick them up by 7:30pm.  Normal school attire is appropriate. Admission for the event is to bring a non-perishable food item that will be donated to the BG Food Pantry.

This is an up-tempo dance DJ'ed by Doug Michaelis.  Doug has been a DJ for many years and is involved with 4-H.  Miss Antonia will be working with the students on some dance moves during P.E.

We are in need of three chaperones to accompany Miss Megan and Miss Antonia.  We also need volunteers to drop off snacks and drinks.  If you are interested, please contact Miss Megan in room 301 or via e-mail megan@montessorischoolbg.org

Thank you,
Megan and Antonia

Save on Taxes

Please remember that "daycare" is a deductible expense. Since Bowling Green City Schools only offers ½ day (2.5 hrs) kindergarten, full day students at MSBG (6.5 hrs) can count 4.0 hrs as daycare (meaning 61.53% of their tuition is tax deductable); half day students can count 100% of their tuition as daycare as long as they attend a BG school the other ½ day. All extended care (any age) and all preschool tuition is also tax deductable. Please email Allison Thornton, our Business Manager, at allison@montessorischoolbg.org if you need a childcare credit expense report.

MSBG is a 501(c)3 non-profit charity. You can donate to the school to and your contribution is fully deductible to the extent of the law. Click HERE to donate today.

Kroger Community Rewards

So far this year 46 families have earned rebates of $3,018.18 off their tuition with Kroger Community Rewards.  It is never too late to sign up your Kroger Plus card.  You can also have your family and friends sign up their cards for additional benefits.  There is no limit on how many cards you may have linked to your account.

To sign up, you simply need to login to your Kroger Plus website account and link the Kroger Community Rewards benefit to MSBG (our number is 80235).  This is open to anyone that wants to register, so feel free to get your family and friends to sign-up too!  You will receive the benefits from their cards as well.  However, in order for us to be able to credit those amounts to you, you must send all the names and Kroger Plus numbers to Alisa.Suelzer@gmail.com.   We do have a handful of unclaimed benefits so if you would like the detail of all cards that are currently being credited to your tuition account, please contact Alisa.   Also send her a message if you would like detailed registration instructions for the Kroger Community Rewards program sent to you.

ALL cards must be registered again in April.  We will be sending out reminders in the Spring when it is time once again to re-register your cards.

Staff Spotlight

"Miss Liz" Resler:
Lower Elementary Teacher

Liz is originally from Port Clinton, Ohio. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree and is licensed in Elementary Education.  She also has her Montessori certification for 6-9 year olds and has taught at MSBG for eighteen years. She has served as an instructor and a consultant for prospective Montessori teachers and BGSU student teachers.  She and her husband have lived in Bowling Green for the past 21 years and they have an 18 year old son, Zachary, who is an alumnus of MSBG.    Liz states, "My favorite Montessori material is the test tube division.  Every year when the 'new' students enter the lower elementary classroom they are instantly drawn to this material.  I remember being the same way when I walked into the Montessori classroom years ago. It is a wonderful hands-on method of learning division!"

GL Scrip!

Did you know that you can earn rebates toward your MSBG tuition just by shopping at your regular stores and dining at your usual restaurants?  So far this year, 27 participating families have earned a total of $3,567.70 in rebates toward their tuition!

How does it work?  Every week our school places an order for gift cards from all types of retailers including Walmart, Home Depot, Chili’s, Amazon.com, Elder Beerman, and hundreds of other establishments.  Each purchase earns a tuition rebate from anywhere between 2% and 18% of your purchase depending on the store.  Ordering these cards is very easy.  We have all participants set up their account so there is a direct link to your checking account and the amount of your purchases is automatically deducted.  You simply need to logon and place your order before 8:30am on Monday and then stop in the front office anytime after 9am on that same Thursday to pick up your cards.  There are also several vendors that send you e-certificates immediately so you don’t have to wait.    The front office tracks your rebates and then you will receive a credit for the full amount applied weekly.  Login towww.shopwithscrip.com to check out all that is available.  Send an e-mail to Alisa.Suelzer@gmail.com if you would like to have detailed registration instructions sent to you.  Earning free money has never been easier!
