PWI Newsletter for JanuaryTake a look at what we have been up to. |
A Year in Review…. |
As we are gearing up for a whole New Year to start, I was able to take a look back on 2023 and the awesome successes we have had in our program. Some of the highlights are sustaining staff, developing leadership, support through our grants and fundraisers and overall getting more people to know about us and to understand why we are here. We are looking forward to 2024 and so much more to come for Project WILL. Thank you once again for your growing support of our mission. We could not do it without the support of our community. |
Project WILL Special Assignment |
The month of December brought on a new skill to learn and practice for our Members. The Indianapolis State Museum asked if we wanted to help to archive a special project for them that dates back to the 1970’s. This project was transferred to them in early 2000 but there is no digital record of the material found during the excavation. The goal of the project is to transcribe all of the index cards into a digital database spreadsheet so they can understand the breadth of the collection, track the material and help others to conduct research on the materials collected.
Weekly our members will rotate time transcribing the index cards and inputting them into a spreadsheet. There are over 5000 cards to transcribe, so they will be able to continue to practice their skills. It is a great opportunity for them to do some additional training within our site, and both locations are able to participate! Thank you to the Indianapolis State Museum for giving us this opportunity to explore new opportunities! |

The L.I.N.K.S Initiative Month at a glance |
This past month we really started to work with Members on their appearance at work and looking their best. Each location has a selected day of the week where are Members are asked to “Dress for Success”. We want them to know how important appearance and hygiene can be for a job, as well as dressing for the occasion. We are talking with them and trying to teach them about matching their clothing, to ensure their clothing is free of stains, spots, and/or wrinkles and also that they look presentable with combed hair and fresh breath. They have done a really great job. Most of the Members remember to participate weekly, and they have been looking their best. A reminder for our Dress for Success Days on which day of the week they are participating could be helpful for our members as well as us! Graham Road: Wednesday Chapel Rock: Tuesday |

Featured Members & Celebrations |
| This is Eric.Eric has been a member of Project WILL for some time now, he did take some time off but rejoined earlier this year. He is such a hard worker, and does an exceptional job while working in the community. He remains very focused on his tasks and also can be of assistance to his peers at the same time. While at the office, Eric loves to show off his dance moves, and is very engaged in the daily activities. We have seen a great amount of growth in Eric since his return to us this past year. |

Volunteer Opportunities Available |
Are you looking to get involved in a project? Do you need something to be a part of? Are you looking to give back to your community? We have 2 really great opportunities to do so!
First, we are looking for a very organized, go getter to be the Chair of our June Rummage Sale.Date is still TBD, but shooting for June timeframe. We are going to be collecting items to hold a large rummage sale right in the parking lot of our Graham Road location. We need someone who is willing to take the reign and run the project for us!
Next, the planning for our 2nd Annual Bubbles and Bags will begin very soon, the event will take place in August! We need volunteers to help put this amazing event together! We will have committees for volunteers to join based on what you are interested in, whether it be food, decor, logistics, etc…. Come share your special talent with us and help us make this event even better the 2nd year!
If you are interested in participating in either event please send me an email and I will add you to the distribution list for the planning events. Email Kelly @ kmajors@projectwill.org |

Become a Project WILL Insider |
|
What is a Project WILL Insider? Being a Project WILL Insider gains you access to an exclusive club that helps to support our program. It is a way to give back to the population we serve and help to support them. You can watch them strengthen their independence and work hard toward a fulfilling life, take pride in their accomplishments and strive to become a contributing member of their community. Any little bit makes a whole world of difference for us and our Members, and even makes a stronger statement when it is a continual gift.
Could you give $5 a month to purchase a one way voucher for transportation for a member to get to/from the program ?
How about $15 a month to cover the cost of a Fun Friday Event for them to learn how to cook a special meal on their own, or to go see a movie with their peers?
How about spending $25 a month to cover the cleaning supplies we use to stop the spread of germs for those that typically are high risk for illness?
Every little bit helps more than you can imagine. Without people becoming a Project WILL Insider, we can’t do what we do for our members each day. So please consider signing up.
