FEMA Seeks Volunteers for Virtual BRIC National Review Panels

FEMA is seeking volunteers from state, local, tribal and territorial governments and other federal agencies to participate on the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) virtual national review panels. Participation in these panels will strengthen the BRIC review process by ensuring it is transparent, equitable and inclusive. The agency is accepting Expression of Interest forms from Jan. 8, 2024 – Feb. 15, 2024. These volunteers will leverage their mitigation experience and expertise to determine how sub applications meet BRIC qualitative evaluation criteria.

The virtual panels will run April 8 – May 3, 2024, on Zoom. Panelists will serve 30 hours on one weekly panel from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Eastern Time, as well as participate in a three-hour training. FEMA anticipates that panel participants will commit eight hours a day over the course of five business days. All reviews will be conducted virtually and there is no compensation for participating on the panels.

For more information, visit the BRIC homepage on FEMA.gov.
PUBLIC ASSISTANCE
Public Assistance Partner Tour
On January 5th FEMA Region 3, the city of Wilmington, New Castle County, and DEMA staff toured the Southbridge (Wilmington) Wetlands project site. The group toured critical areas and neighborhoods prone to flooding and/or potentially impacted by storm surges. The Wetlands project is an example of how the City is working to mitigate flooding and sea level rise.

DEVOAD Participates in ESC Functional Exercise
DEVOAD staff, represented by Chair, Toby French, and Vice Chair, Marty Brett, participated in an ESC Functional Exercise held at DEMA in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on December 14th. This in-person gathering pulled together major DEMA Partners including: the Delaware State Police, Red Cross, DHSS, DEVOAD, and others, practicing state-wide disasters procedures and EOC activation. The winter storm exercise scenario was realistic and stressed many features of disaster response, to include establishing shelters, warming centers, and driving restrictions that would accompany a major snowstorm. The ESC Functional Exercise resulted in a productive training opportunity for all, and drove home the importance of partner engagements.
DEVOAD Volunteers Needed
If you or your organization wishes to volunteer, please email Vice Chair, Marty Brett, at mbrett5@verizon.net and the DEVOAD will arrange work to fit the skills and number of volunteers available.

Type Of Work:

  • Yard and alley cleanup with debris removal
  • Removal of drywall, insulation, and carpets
  • Replacing molding and baseboards

Mitigation actions are one of the most important parts of a hazard mitigation plan. They help to assign responsibilities, create timelines, and set criteria for success. FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) Grant Program provides funding for eligible mitigation measures that reduce disaster losses. This webinar will explore various funding opportunities, the projects they can support, and mitigation alternatives. FEMA Region 3 Coffee Break Eventbrite.
