Happy Birthday Decatur!
We proudly represented Decatur Makers, 18 Robot Lanterns strong, at the Decatur Bicentennial Parade! Thank you to all the Volunteers who made this possible and a special thanks to Decatur Robotics for walking with us and always bringing learning fun to our community events!

Thank you to everyone who came out in the rain to shop our Holiday Makers Market and spend time with the Decatur Makers community! We hosted first time vendors, making the sales and connections to take their new businesses to the next level, alongside some of our favorite long-time makers. Also big thanks to all of the vendors who set up in the rain, and braved the chill with big smiles, to present a successful first Decatur Makers Holiday Market! You looked great!

Community Outreach
This November, we partnered with Decatur Library to run another Dare to Repair event. Decatur Makers members volunteered their skills to help library patrons repair their home goods. It’s always a fun challenge- makers are nothing if not resourceful!

One maker even turned a new handle for a vacuum cleaner on the wood lathe! This truly is one of our favorite community events. Thank you to all the volunteers and the library for your good work! The library also shared that they're working with Warm Up Dekalb to collect new and used sleeping bags at the Covington Library branch. See below for details!

Youth Outreach
When a rainy forecast shifted the reality of the paper crafts at our outdoor Holiday Makers Market, we moved the kids crafts inside and opened our doors for a community day! Chris DJed, Megan hosted the snack bar, Melody, and a generous band of volunteers, led kids and families through crafts. It was all a beautiful reminder of what Decatur Makers is.

Yes, we are a membership based makerspace where individuals use awesome tools to create goods for themselves and their small businesses. Yes, we are a community hub, 530 members strong, open and willing to share all their awesome maker knowledge with the next generation.
And yes, we'll hold an occasional hot chocolate fueled dance party in the background too!

You may notice a small pause in our Youth Events in January. Our Youth Programming and Outreach Manager is using this month to plan some new offerings. We'll bring back our monthly favorites, and add new focused programming, beginning with Family Build NIght on January 31st!

Holiday Pot Luck
In December, our standard Monthly Members Meeting transformed into a Holiday Pot Luck feast! Makers outdid themselves this year, with both food and laughter. We all left with full bellies and big smiles.

Maker Spotlight
Morgan is one of our aweseome Woodshop Area Stewards. This year he has fixed machines, reorganized the woodshop, taught classes, helped us with IT challenges, donated to the silent auction- you name it, he's there. Sending big thanks for all of your help this year Morgan!
He also makes a lot of cool hand-carved and lathe pieces, and recently shared this big project to the #show-and-tell channel:

A little more chisel work is needed to even it all out, but it’s getting close!
