Reminder: Comments are due TODAY on NOAA's proposal to ban the import and export of Banggai cardinalfishes.
The fishes are being removed in large numbers from the wild to supply the aquarium trade despite the species already being listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. According to the Animal Welfare Institute (AWI): "upwards of 80% of wild-caught Banggai cardinalfish die before they even leave Indonesia."
AWI provides a convenient form by which to support the proposal and also "encourage NOAA to enhance such protections by banning the domestic sale of the species as well."
