Let the Mystery Be

Sunday, December 17th
10:25am
Join us in person or Zoom!

The Northlake Men’s Group will meet on Saturday, December 16, from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. in person in the Chapel Side Room at Northlake.  No Zoom.  It will be BYOB (Bring Your Own Breakfast).

The Men's Group promotes friendship, encourages community, and provides support among the men and friends of the NUUC community in support of UU principles and values.

All personal stories and matters shared at the meeting are private and confidential, unless otherwise noted. All participants pledge to uphold and respect that confidentiality.

Please contact Steve Rosen at steve98033@gmail.com if you would like more information about this Saturday's meeting or if you wish to be added to our email list.

Solstice Service

Thursday Dec. 21st
7 pm
Sanctuary

This is the longest night of the year. We will gather around to call in the directions and light fire together. As we join in Solstice refreshments, there will be a spiral to walk through as you reflect on hopes for your future self.

Christmas Eve Service

Sunday, Dec. 24th
7 pm
Sanctuary

Join us for an interactive Christmas pageant on the birth of Jesus, along with many carols and the multi-generational orchestra. We will close with our candle lighting ritual.
Note: There will be no Worship Service the morning of Sunday, Dec. 24th.

The Mitten Tree!
On Christmas Eve we invite you to bring in mittens (or gloves!) to hand on our Mitten Tree.  All donations will be taken to Operation Nightwatch, the street ministry in Seattle.

Minister's Discretionary Fund

Each Christmas Eve we hold a special financial collection that goes into the Minister's Discretionary Fund.  All the money in this fund is used to help members of our congregation during times of crisis, such as the loss of housing or in emergency situations.  Sometimes this is also used for food cards or special needs for members of the larger community, at the discretion of the minister.  The Christmas Eve collection is the only source of finances for this fund, so please be generous in support of our community!

Upcoming Children and Youth Events at Northlake!

This year our RE Sunday will be a youth-led service on the theme of mystery! We will be co-creating the service, choosing songs and readings, sharing music and a short message on how we manage uncertainties and lean into the mystery that life offers. Children and youth can also participate as chalice lighters, celebrants, and musicians!
  • December 17 - December Crafts and Games during RE class time
  • December 21 - Solstice Celebration, Main Sanctuary @ 7pm. There’s an opportunity for youth and adults to help set up for the Solstice celebration, and also to participate in its creation! If you have time and are interested, please contact Margaret at DLRE@northlakeuu.org by December 10th.
  • December 24 - no morning service! Join us for Christmas Eve service at 7pm.

EIM: Mogallana - The powers and kindness

Thursday, Dec. 21st
7pm
Chapel

The Buddha had two chief disciples, Sariputta and Mogallana. As part of our holiday tradition of exploring aspects of the Buddha's life during the last sit before Christmas, we will this week learn about Mogallana. This monastic was known for his sometimes-miraculous powers, but also for his great compassion and kindness. Let's see how his life, the choices he made, inform our own own lives.

UPLIFT Trans/Nonbinary+ Monthly Gathering

Trans, nonbinary, and other not-entirely-or-at-all-cis UUs are invited to join our monthly gathering, which we hope will feel like a cozy cup of something soothing (in virtual meeting form!). This intentionally multi-generational gathering is open to and welcoming of trans/nonbinary elders as well as children, youth, and young adults.

Register here

This is a closed event specifically for trans/nonbinary+ people. Anyone who is trans, nonbinary, metagender, multigender, genderfluid, agender, demigender, genderqueer, questioning, and otherwise not wholly or entirely cis is welcome to attend.

NOTE: There may be cisgender people present as parents supporting their 13-and-younger-child's presence in the space, as tech support, or as captioners. However, if you are completely cisgender and not trans/nonbinary, please join other spaces supporting trans/nonbinary+ people that are open to all, such as our Side With Love Monthly Mixer or our monthly Faithful Grounding (click here for more info on each event.)
Staff vacation!

The Northlake Board has granted the NUUC Staff a week of vacation between Christmas and New Years. This is in recognition and gratitude of the extra hours and work the staff have dedicated to Northlake during the past 4 years of the pandemic.
Please congratulate and thank Bug, Stephanie, Margaret, Maria and Rev. Nancy, and don't expect to hear from them the week between the holidays!
