Temporary Exhibit and Activity Highlight Role of Music in Lewis and Clark Expedition

WASHBURN, N.D. – Replicas of musical instruments connected to the Lewis and Clark Expedition will be featured with an exhibit and activity at the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center in Washburn Jan. 2-6, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The expedition journals include several dozen references to the role of music for recreation and celebration.

Explore the unique musical instruments present on the expedition in addition to others that influenced North Dakota’s rich heritage. Among the instruments featured in the exhibit are the jaw harp, fiddle, accordion, and hurdy gurdy.

Create your own expedition musical instruments between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Supplies will be provided. This bonus activity is free and included with your purchase of admission to the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center.

The Interpretive Center is open Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Fort Mandan State Historic Site is open for guided tours that leave the Interpretive Center.
