Hello Partners!

Welcome to your monthly source of information from The Idaho Foodbank.

The Idaho Foodbank Updates

Reminder: Warehouse Closure
Please note that all of The Idaho Foodbank’s warehouses will be closed in observance of Christmas on Friday, December 22nd and Monday, December 25th, 2023. If you need help rescheduling your pick-up or delivery, please contact your IFB representative or email partnerships@idahofoodbank.org.

Please keep in mind that closures may shorten your ordering window. If you have questions about when to place your order, don’t hesitate to reach out for clarification!

Access to Food
The holiday season is meant to be a merry time, full of warmth and excitement. However, the holidays can feel rather challenging for many people. It can be hard to put food on the table, purchase gifts for loved ones, or spend time with the family when you have a limited income.

The USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) recently released a report that shows a significant increase in individuals living in food-insecure households. Many of our neighbors work full-time, yet they still have trouble purchasing food while covering the high cost of living, per Idaho’s ALICE report. It may seem that things are generally becoming more difficult.

Remember that anyone can use our food locator (idahofoodbank.org/getfood) to help our neighbors find food during the holidays. You can also share the flyer below, which includes a QR to take someone directly to The Idaho Foodbank’s food locator.

Nonprofit Updates

Idaho Launch
For families facing food insecurity, college and career training can feel out of reach. Having to choose between putting food on the table or paying for school leaves families making difficult decisions to delay or forgo education all together. With Idaho LAUNCH, families may not have to choose.

New Idaho LAUNCH grants will cover up to $8,000 for the costs of apprenticeships, job training, community college, and university programs in Idaho that lead to in-demand careers, starting with the graduating class of 2024.

This one-time grant can cover up to 80% of the total tuition and fees at an eligible institution or training provider for a maximum of $8,000. Students can receive up to half of the initial award in the first year of a program, with the remaining funds being disbursed through the remainder of the program. For programs that are less than 12 months in length, students can use the full award amount (80% of tuition and fees, up to $8,000) in one year.

The Idaho LAUNCH application closes on April 15, 2024. Contingent Award Letters will be sent on the following schedule -

  • Round 1 Contingent Award Letters sent by December 31

  • Round 2 Contingent Award Letters sent by March 31

  • Round 3 Contingent Award Letters sent by May 31

Final Award Letters will be issued in June 2024 after eligibility is verified. All students who have graduated from an Idaho high school or equivalent program are eligible, but funds are limited. Students are encouraged to apply now. Learn more and apply at nextsteps.idaho.gov/LAUNCH

Partners will be able to obtain flyers with this information in the next Quarterly Resources Box.

Partner Highlight

HUB 365 Community Center
Community Development, Inc., Cloverdale Seventh-day Adventist Church, and United Way were finally able to open their new HUB 365 COMMUNITY CENTER Building in Boise to the public after a lot of planning and hard work.

The HUB 365 is an all-volunteer service organization and they want to continue doing more for the community. The new building holds their food pantry, a thrift shop, and a kitchen with a meeting space. This new location allowed them to expand their food pantry space so that they are able to help more people. The HUB 365 Community Center is now able to be open every Saturday (if there is a 5th Saturday in a given month, they will not be open that day).

The HUB 365 Community Center strives to treat everyone who walks through the doors as family and friends. They want people to feel comfortable when they come into the food pantry. They have set up their food pantry in a way that would allow their neighbors to have a positive shopping experience by having them walk through the pantry and choose from a great selection of food.

The HUB 365 wants to continue doing even more in their community. Some of the programs they are working on include: No cost clinics for Vision, Dental, and Medical; no cost Meal Programs; and Community Education classes such as healthy cooking classes and financial education.

Congratulations on the successful collaboration to open this community center building!
