FEBRUARY 2024
The research is pretty overwhelming in terms of the benefits of high school students being involved in a high school sport or activity. Students who are involved are more likely to graduate, more likely to go to college, more likely to have better grades, less likely to get into trouble and less likely to suffer from depression. Our primary mission as an organization is to encourage and support every single student who wants to be a part of something at Reservoir.

Please join us for our monthly meeting on Monday, February 5th at 7pm in the staff lounge next to the cafeteria. Visit our website to view the full meeting schedule.

RHS Boosters Needs You!

We are losing several super parent volunteers whose children will be graduating this year.  This affords each of you the tremendous opportunity to be a parent/family volunteer to help keep our organization moving forward for the benefit of the RHS students and organizations!  Please read on to see if you are interested in helping out in one of the opening leadership positions.  Not interested in leadership?  That’s ok too, you can still complete the volunteer form and we will reach out with other opportunities to help.

We are currently looking to fill the following positions for the 2024-2025 school year:

President
Officer and a voting member of the board; responsible for overseeing each monthly meeting, fiscal matters, and filling vacancies for all volunteer roles. They serve as the liaison between the school and boosters; must attend each monthly meeting to ensure we have a quorum; Current President can assist with transition

Vice President
Officer and a voting member of the board; responsible for overseeing Sponsorship, Fundraising, and Outreach;  must attend each monthly meeting to ensure we have a quorum.

Summer Camps Committee
We are looking for one or two additional committee members; meets monthly, as needed; the busy period is during the late spring and summer.

Spirit Wear Chair
We are looking for someone to chair the spirit wear. They are responsible for creating new school designs and selling gear at school events.

Reservoir Boys Varsity Basketball - Freshman Canaan Chance

Meet Canaan Chance, freshman point guard. Canaan has truly made a remarkable impact on the Basketball Team since his mid-season call-up to Varsity from JV. Demonstrating exceptional leadership qualities, Canaan has seamlessly assumed the role of starting point guard and team captain. His commitment to excellence is evident in his approach to film sessions, where he pays close attention to detail. Moreover, Canaan's ability to provide constructive feedback to his teammates reflects his strong leadership skills. On the court, his contagious effort has become a driving force for the entire team. Canaan Chance is not just a skilled player but also a dedicated leader who inspires his teammates to strive for success!

14 athletes had season best performances.
50 athletes personal best performances.
2 athletes are national qualifiers: Femi Fekoya and Kiley Okechukwu
1 school record was broken: Kaniyah Ervin in the 400 meter Dash.

What a great weekend and fun had by all!

RHS Dance Company

The RHS Dance Company attended the Maryland Public High School Dance Showcase on Friday, January 5th.  Over 500 students participated, representing 40 schools and 10 counties from across the state. The student dancers participated in several master classes taught by local dance artists and were selected to perform in the evenings gala event.  The group received the 2024 MPHSDS Professionalism Award which is given to the three schools that represent the highest level of professionalism (professional decorum, professional appearance, kindness and support for other schools and respect for master teacher and showcase staff) as chosen by their peers and master teachers. Furthermore, Claire Williams and Lulna Ghirmai (pictured below) received their awards for being selected All State Dancer and All State Dancer Honorable mention respectively.  So proud of how these students represented the dance program, Reservoir High School and Howard County!
