New self-screening program will help detect cervical cancer sooner
People in B.C. will have improved access to cervical cancer screening as a provincewide cervix self-screening program launches, including the option to screen at home, a first in Canada.
Self-screening is easier, more convenient, and more accurate than the traditional pap test, and can be more comfortable for people who have previous trauma.
By working together, we can eliminate deadly cervical cancer in B.C. in the next decade.

Funding will support local volunteer fire departments, keep people safe
We’re so grateful that B.C.’s volunteer firefighters are there when we need them.
That’s why we’re providing funding to benefit more than 200 volunteer and composite firefighter departments, so they can help keep people and communities safe.
Our government is providing support for equipment and training to ensure people are safer and better protected by enhanced local firefighting capability.

More shelters open, prepare for plummeting temperatures
People are urged to prepare for extremely cold weather and snow in many communities across British Columbia, starting today and lasting into early next week.
To help people who don’t have a place to stay warm, all available BC Housing shelters in B.C. will be open.
There are more than 5,500 shelter spaces open across the province, consisting of a mix of EWR, temporary and permanent overnight shelters.

Nominations are being accepted for the Province’s two highest honours: the Order of British Columbia and the Medal of Good Citizenship.
The Order of British Columbia, the Province’s top honour, celebrates outstanding achievement, excellence or distinction that has benefited the province or reached beyond its borders.
The Medal of Good Citizenship recognizes British Columbians who have made a tremendous difference in the lives of others and made our province a better place.
