Cooperative Ownership in Rondo: A Resurgence of Black-Owned Businesses on Selby
On January 8th, the Startribune published an article highlighting the difficulties that lie behind succession planning for businesses in the Twin Cities. It notes that Minnesota "has 53,000 baby boomer-owned small businesses, of which 85% don't have a succession plan." Mychael and Stephanie Wright, the beloved owners of Golden Thyme Coffee and Cafe, were among this number.

The article features Rondo CLT's purchase of Golden Thyme and its planned implementation of a cooperative-ownership model. In light of the many business closures happening across the Twin Cities, it is great seeing employee ownership lifted as a succession plan option. To follow along our effort to write a new chapter for Golden Thyme on Selby, read the article here.
A Powerful Tool for Housing Accessibility Thrives in Minnesota: Community Land Trusts Provide a Critical Bridge to Affordable Homeownership
The McKnight Foundation recently produced a video to help tell the story of Minnesota’s thriving Community Land Trust movement. Along with City of Lakes Community Land Trust and One Roof Community Housing, McKnight features Rondo CLT to illustrate how Community Land Trusts create critical bridges to homeownership for those who might not otherwise be able to afford the costs of homes thus helping ensure that more Minnesotans of color and low-wealth Minnesotans can build wealth through homeownership.
