Maxwell Park Emergency Reponse Team (MPERT) 🚒🚑

MPERT is proud to announce we now have six emergency neighborhood gathering locations throughout Maxwell Park called incident command centers (ICC). These ICCs are located in sectors: AA, AB, C, D, E, and I. Neighbors can gather at the ICCs to get or offer help during a major emergency. It is the ideal location to store community emergency supplies including radios, crow bar, tarp, and first aid supplies. To find the ICC nearest you, contact mpert.info@gmail.com.

The goal is to identify two ICC locations per sector. Hosting an ICC does not require much work on your end. Your address is listed as an ICC and you give at least one neighbor access to this box for use during an emergency, in case you are not home; but nobody needs to enter your home. Once funding becomes available, MPERT can provide a 3x5 garden storage box for community emergency supplies. If you can host an ICC, please reach out: mpert.info@gmail.com, (510) 917-9994.

MacArthur Motels and 7-11

In response to rising concerns over increased criminal activities at local hotels and motels along MacArthur Boulevard, neighbors in OPD beat 25X have taken proactive steps to address the issue. Collaborating with the Neighborhood Law Corps, several individuals successfully petitioned the City of Oakland to investigate crime and nuisance incidents at specific locations.

The investigation focuses on four commercial properties along MacArthur Boulevard:
  1. Sage Motel (4844 MacArthur Blvd)
  2. Holiday Motel (4474 MacArthur Blvd)
  3. Laurel Inn (4550 MacArthur Blvd)
  4. 7-11 Market (4720 MacArthur Blvd)
The Neighborhood Law Corps, led by City of Oakland attorney Martha Cardenas Delgadillo, is undertaking the following actions:
  • Collecting and analyzing records associated with all four properties.
  • Sending formal letters to property owners identified as sources of crime and/or nuisance.
  • Considering legal action, including lawsuits, against property owners if necessary.
How You Can Contribute: A Call for Community Support
Residents are encouraged to assist in this effort by reporting any witnessed crime or nuisance activities at the mentioned properties. You can reach out to the Neighborhood Law Corps through the following channels: Martha Cardenas Delgadillo is eager to receive information in written or verbal form and is specifically interested in:
  • Personal accounts of crime or nuisance activities at the motels.
  • How incidents are affecting individuals and the community.
  • Observations of criminal activity impacting daily life, such as feeling unsafe or disturbed during specific hours.
  • Interactions with staff or residents at the motels or 7-11 Market.
  • Reports filed with the Oakland Police Department or other relevant agencies.
  • Photos or videos capturing incidents at the motels or 7-11.
If unsure about the relevance of your information, please share it with Martha, who can follow up with any clarifications. Your cooperation is crucial in addressing and resolving these concerns for the safety and well-being of our community.

2023-2024 Holiday Tree Recycling Schedule: December 26, 2023 – January 12, 2024 🎄

Waste Management is collecting trees from Dec. 26 till Jan. 12. If you live in a house or an apartment building with fewer than 100 units, you can place your tree at the curb when your compost is picked up. However, if your apartment building has more than 100 units, look out for a message from your property manager, as they should have received a large container from Waste Management (known as a “roll-off box”) where you can place your tree. After Jan. 13, you will have to cut your tree into pieces so it fits into your compost cart.

Adopt-A-Drain

Let's team up to keep our streets flood-free! The rainy season is here so please take a moment to clear debris from storm drains near your home. It's a small effort with a big impact – protecting our community from potential flooding. Let's make sure rainwater has a smooth path to flow. Together, we can keep our neighborhood safe and dry!
