The Year of the Dragon 🐉 started off in a very fiery way with the sad news of the earthquake and airport incident in Japan. I have been asking my friends in Japan if their relatives and acquaintances are okay. There are quite a few organizations that are supporting, so if you feel called to do so, please consider seeing how you can help.
Personally, I never know who best to donate to nor how to help. At times I feel guilty and helpless for being safe and sound in my warm home. Then I wonder how I would feel if I were to experience the loss of my home or the tragic deaths of loved ones (all in the middle of winter, no less).
I don’t normally do this… but I wanted to share about one Go Fund Me campaign. Takeshi-san is a recruiter in Texas who represents Quick USA, and I’ve gotten to know him well over the last couple of years. He’s been a huge supporter of candidates with J/E language/cultural skills, and I feel that he goes above and beyond for kakehashi employees especially. He even offers free consultation calls to registered USJETAA members (info here)! Yes, he posts job ads on Nihongo Jobs rather frequently, but I’m not sharing because I feel indebted to his business. (In fact, he has no idea that I’m doing this!) I’m mentioning him because I recently learned that he is from Ishikawa, and the homes of his parents, aunts and cousins are destroyed. In fact, his family is still waiting to hear from one aunt and cousin. He will be flying home to volunteer, and I applaud his bravery and dedication to helping. If you’d like, please take a look at his Go Fund Me page. He is trustworthy, and I know that the moneys will go directly to the people who need it. Knowing him, he will most likely dedicate a huge portion of his own moneys to help his family.
Wishing you and yours warm wishes into the New Year…
Sincerely - どうぞよろしくお願いします。
Kasia
