DUT STAFF HAVE BIG PLANS FOR 2024

It is the first week of 2024, a great time to reflect on the previous year and plan for the year ahead. How was your festive season and what are your plans for this new year? The DUT Communications team, Patience Makhaye asked these questions to some of the DUT employees and this is what they had to say ….

JOURNALISM ALUMNUS, KARINDA JAGMOHAN RECOGNISED FOR EXCEPTIONAL COVERAGE OF THE CORONATION OF KING MISIZULU KAZWELITHINI

A Journalism alumnus, Karinda Jagmohan was recently awarded the Regional Award Vodacom Journalist of the Year 2023 in the category of Live Reporting Breaking News Contributor at the prestigious Vodacom Journalist of the Year Awards 2023.

Jagmohan who obtained her BTech in Journalism at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) in 2017 is currently a news reporter for Newzroom Afrika in KwaZulu-Natal. Newzroom Afrika is a 24-hour TV news channel broadcasting across Africa on DStv Channel 405.

DUT DRAMA STUDENT, NONTETHELELO NDWANDWE ACKNOWLEDGED FOR HER ROLE ON UZALO

A Drama and Production Studies student at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), Nontethelelo Ndwandwe known as Sthabile from Uzalo has been nominated for the Best Actress of the Year award by the African Young Queen Recognition Awards. This event that recognises aspiring female artists making a mark in their spaces is expected to be held in Pietermaritzburg on 21 March 2024.

The 21-year-old aspiring actress from Nongoma in KwaZulu-Natal started appearing on SABC 1’s popular soap, Uzalo on January 2023.

DEPARTMENT OF BIOTECHNOLOGY AND FOOD SCIENCE HOSTED THE 36TH SASM KZN SYMPOSIUM

The Department of Biotechnology and Food Science under the Faculty of Applied Sciences at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) in partnership with the South African Society for Microbiology recently hosted the 36th South African Society for Microbiology (SASM) KZN Regional Symposium. The SASM KZN Symposium was held at the DUT Hotel School Conference Centre, Ritson campus.

SASM is a non-profit professional association dedicated to the advancement of microbiological sciences in South Africa. Its members comprises of microbiologists employed in universities, institutes, industry and government as well as student and corporate members.

STRENGTHENING COLLABORATIVE TIES: TOYOTA SOUTH AFRICA ENGAGES WITH THE DURBAN UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

In a noteworthy collaborative initiative, the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics (FAI) at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) recently played host to Toyota South Africa at the Ritson campus. DUT IMPACT

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) approved the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework. The five values are identified as transparency, honesty, integrity, respect, and accountability. The principles espoused are fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion, and excellence. DUT’s Communications team, Patience Makhaye, spoke to Mandisa Rethabile Mahumane, a Student Admissions Assistant under the DUT Student Admissions unit.

Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?

A: “I currently work at the DUT Student Admissions unit as a Student Admissions Assistant. I assist with registration and admission of prospective students.”
