Meeting Minutes - Oct. 2023

Russell Neighborhood Association

October 12, 2023

6:00-7:00

Meeting @ Linfield University

Attendees: Liz Braun, Mary Nelson, Marisa Rojas Gong, Andy Johnson, Richard Kelly, Mat Cole (ECR), Carrie Goble (Wilkes), Timur Ender (Hazelwood)

Introductions of Russell Neighborhood Association (RNA) members present and online.

The meeting minutes for September meetings were approved unanimously.

Neighbor Open Floor:

  • Timur Ender: Hazlewood neighbor running for city council. Just coming to say hello, introduce himself and answer any questions about the upcoming election in November 2024. Talked briefly about what to expect to vote on in the election. Voters will only see candidates in their district (we are in district 4). Explained Ranked Choice Voting process. Discussed the campaign finance matching program. Contact: (971)770-1814, EnderinEastPortland@gmail.com www.Ender4EastPortland.com

Treasurer Report:

Nelson reported that we have a little over $50 in the bank account and $5 in the savings account. Nelson brought up the topic of fundraising again, which will be discussed later in the meeting. Last year the city provided EPCO community events funding, which we will not be eligible for next year. Braun currently pays all bills and the RNA reimburses her. We will need to fundraise to cover our operating and event expenses for next year.

Fundraising

  • If anybody ever wants to donate we have a GiveButter account that accepts donations without fees. You can find the link in the website.

Decreasing Meeting Cadence: The board has decided to decrease the number of meetings. We will decrease the number of meetings but likely increase the duration and content covered in the meeting agenda. The cadence moving forward will be quarterly - January, April, June, October. The board will continue to meet on a more frequent cadence, likely monthly. The board will post board meeting notes and provide opportunities for RNA members to participate in smaller committees more frequently.

Website:

East Portland Community Office Is getting rid of their website and we will be using grant funding to create a new website. What should be included?

  • When and where?

  • Zoom link

  • Board

  • Meeting minutes

  • Contact info

  • How to join

  • How to donate

  • How to sponsor

  • Location of Russell neighborhood (maybe a map?)
