Feeling the Love for Oxted This February

News!
  • Anne-Marie Dickinson has stepped down as Director/Board Member of The Oxted BID. Anne-Marie has been involved in the Oxted BID for many years, and was previously a member of the Oxted Chamber of Commerce. We would like to say a huge THANK YOU for all her work and help in implementing the BID objectives and activities.
  • HELLO to Nicki Rundle. As one Director leaves, another arrives and we'd like to say hello to Nicki, our new Board Member and Director who is now officially on the team following her representation at the AGM last November.  Nicki is a Senior Associate at Morr & Co LLP, lawyers on Station Road West. We very much look forward to working with her.
  • Board Member call-out!  If there are any other business owners/managers who would be interested in stepping up as a Board Member, please let us know.
  • Congrats to La Maison and Bru & Bear (formerly The Deli) for their recent rebrand/renovations. Looking very smart!
  • We're looking forward to the launch of Bocata by Pan y Vino, a new Spanish deli and sandwich bar in the lovely little shop by the station tunnel entrance.
  • There are also a couple of other businesses that are due to launch soon, including Boccognani (in the former Tender Trap premises) and Kinjo's new takeaway (in the former Subway shop)...Keep your eyes peeled to social media for other news!
BID Social!
  • 13th February 5.30-7.30PM at Pan y Vino - RSVP please
Come along after work for a glass of wine and tapas, and a chat with your fellow Oxted business owners.  Our inaugural BID Social in October was great fun and a really nice way for some of the business managers/owners to meet each other. It was surprising how many did not already know each other given our small community!
  • Please RSVP to Sophie on WhatsApp +44 7514011355 or email marketing@loveoxted.co.uk
Fire Safety
  • Jonathan Inns, Business Education Officer working for Surrey Fire and Rescue Service has kindly offered to give advice to businesses about fire safety and update on changes in legislation which may affect your business. We will offer up some dates shortly.
Christmas Events Feedback
  • We have not had much response via our feedback form :(
  • Late Night Shopping was very well attended, as was the Christmas Market.
  • General consensus is closure of Station Road East and West is preferred.
  • However, following anecdotal feedback, we are looking at potentially switching to a weekend daytime event (culminating in the lights switch on at dusk) this coming Christmas, instead of Thursday night late night shopping, but we really need to know your thoughts on what worked for you and what didn't, and what you'd prefer next time. This is URGENT because we need to get dates in the diary for this year's events.
  • We would also like to hear your thoughts about regular markets / location etc.

PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR THE QUICK FEEDBACK SURVEY The more input we have from you, the more we can try to make it work for everyone next time.
Attractive Town
  • Master Park Roundabout - this is now complete and the Heritage style lamppost installed. The BID as secured funding from SCC Councillor, Cameron McIntosh to replant the roundabout and make it pretty again! We hope to be able to complete this by the end of March in time for spring.
  • Hanging Baskets and planters will continue to be maintained throughout the year as well as the potted trees which we hope will have had time to bed in so that they can start to grow and thrive this year.  If there are any other areas in the town you think could do with being enhanced, please let us know.
  • We are currently negotiating our grant for the wayfinding scheme with TDC to see what is possible in the first round of signage improvements. We will update you on progress when we have more news.
CCTV & DISC UPDATE

We are very disheartened by the continued targeting of Oxted shops by shoplifters, both opportunist locals and organised gangs from out of town.  Please remain vigilant and report everything to the police and please be safe.
We will be looking at what other measures we might try in order to help businesses to keep safe and deter criminals.
Please continue to report incidents direct to the police via 999 if it's an emergency, 101 or via NICE.
Please also make sure you follow up any reports with CCTV images as requested by the police.

CCTV:
The CCTV cameras are now up on Station Road West and Master Park.
The Station Road East ones have been delayed, but we understand they will go in soon.

DISC:
  • Tandridge police officers have told us they are making their way around the businesses in person with an information sheet and crime reduction guide. It would be great to know when you have had a visit so we can log who is outstanding.
  • We are still trying to get a date together for an online meeting about DISC system with our local police representatives and business managers.
  • When we get the go-ahead for a meeting from the police, we will send around another forms link for your availability.
  • Tracey has now logged over 165 incidents on the system.
  • If you are unable to access DISC yet, please contact Tracey.

Please try to put high value or targeted items, such as spirits and vapes etc, behind the counter or in locked cabinets where possible. The harder we make it for shoplifters, the better.

And please BLOW THOSE WHISTLES ! Small is mighty and if may well be that the simplest of measures are actually the most effective.  If you haven't received any Love Oxted Lanyards or need more/more Green Shoplifter Alert Whistles, Robert Leech at 74 Station Road East also has a box full. Please drop in and collect if you need some!

  • Surrey Day is 11 May and the theme is Surrey from the Air... We will be working with a local drone photographer, and looking at potential activities to promote Oxted, but welcome any input and suggestions from you.
  • If you would be happy to join the "Helpful BID Peeps" WhatsApp Group, please let Sophie know! This is a group just for swapping general info, feedback and suggestions for activity, requests for social media photos etc.
