Virtual Pangenomics Workshop - Feb 12-16, 2024 presented by NCGR and New Mexico INBRE. The proliferation of reference quality genome assemblies within any single species has necessitated the need for pangenome analyses. Such analyses remove reference bias and elucidate biological signals at a more comprehensive population scale. In this virtual, 1 week workshop, students will learn what exactly a pangenome is, how to build a pangenome, and how to perform fundamental bioinformatic analyses on pangenomic date. More Information

SuRE Webinar - Managing Student Research - Feb 22, 2-3pm ET (10-11am AK)  How do you select students to work in your lab? And once selected, how do you onboard them, leverage layered mentoring, and create an environment for trainee and research success? This webinar will touch on tools, such as Individual Development Plans (IDPs), mentoring compacts, informational interviews, etc., and strategies for PIs to consider in setting up a successful lab culture for undergraduate and graduate researchers. Register Here

International Congress for Circumpolar Health (ICCH18) - June 18-20, 2024 in Yellowknife, Canada. The ICCH is held every 3-4 years. It is open to anyone interested in circumpolar issues. The ICCH participants include scientists, researchers, health care professionals, policy analysts, government representatives and community leaders. This is a fun, exciting meeting of scientific and cultural exchange with others living and working in the Circumpolar regions.   Details

15th International Conference on Brain Energy Metabolism (ICBEM) - Sept 17-21, 2024 in Ljubljana, Slovenia:  "Brain Bioenergetics in Aging - Neurovascular and Neurometabolic Coupling and Fuels". This conference brings together leading researchers, clinicians, young scientists, and students interested in brain energy metabolism. Lectures and discussions will cover latest developments in research related to neurometabolic and neurovascular coupling in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and normal brain, emerging in vivo imaging modalities for studying how brain bioenergetics relates to diverse brain functions, mechanisms of mitochondrial and metabolic resilience, astrocyte and microglial support, and alterations in injured and aging brains. We will also discuss the role of alternative fuels and transport of fuels to support cognition and how these processes may fail, and emerging therapies for Alzheimer's disease. These meetings provide a forum for lively, interactive and informative discussions that often lead to new collaborations. More than one-third of the meeting time is devoted to discussion which continues after the talks and poster sessions and often during free time. The conference is open to all interested scientists with registration on a first-come basis until reaching a limit of 118 conferees. Registration covers most meals and meeting expenses, including a farewell dinner. Registration is anticipated to open January 1, 2024. We anticipate providing about 20-25 travel stipends, depending on available funding, that will be awarded to students and postdoctoral fellows on a competitive basis. Candidates for travel awards must submit their abstracts between January 1 and February 15, 2024. Notification of travel awards will be made by April 2024. Inquiries can be made via the conference email: icbem@brainenergymetabolism.org.  Visit the event website here.
