Black at UTM continues its goal to to showcase Black excellence at UTM with a calendar of events in support of Black History Month. Learn more
Help identify staff excellence 
Nominations are now open for the 2023-2024 UTM Staff Awards. 
The criteria for the Principal’s Service Award for Excellence and the Principal’s Staff Awards, as well as the steps to follow in submitting a nomination, can be found on the Staff Awards & Recognition website. Nominations close March 15.

Be your office's sustainabilty leader

The UTM Sustainability Office is inviting offices to participate in the Sustainable Change Office Program
To become a Team Lead for your office or learn more about the program fill in the MS Form by EOD Friday (Feb. 9). An invitation for a Lunch and Learn session will follow. Learn more

Nominations are now also open for the Sustainable Action Awards. Are you or someone you know working hard to advance sustainability on and off campus? Self-nominate or nominate an individual or group for a tri-campus Sustainable Action Award before Feb. 23. Winners in faculty, staff and student categories will receive $200 gift cards. 

Awards recognize student leaders 
The recipients of the 2024 University of Toronto Student Leadership Awards (UTSLA) have been announced. The awards recognize outstanding student leadership, service and commitment to the University, as well as their significant impact on U of T and on the university experience of their peers.
The students are nomininated by staff, faculty and alumni. The 2025 award nomination period will open September 2024. Learn more
Indigenous entrepreneurs wanted
The iCUBE Indigenous Entrepreneurship Program, designed to empower Indigenous governments and their people through a unique blend of Indigenous knowledge, entrepreneurship and innovative learning approaches, will host a 14-week program in March.
Commitment is approximately three to six hours per week.
The program is being offered in collaboration with Redbird Circle Inc., which merges traditional knowledge with modern business strategies. Applications are due March 4Learn More

T4 and T4A forms for the 2023 tax year will be available online via Employee Self-Service (ESS) for all active University of Toronto employees on Feb. 27. 

VIEW to the U: Is there equity in academia?

The latest edition of the VIEW to the U podcast looks at creating more equitable environments in academia. Guests are Lindsay Schoenbohm, chair of the UTM's department of chemical and physical sciences, and Scott Jess, a faculty member in the School of the Environment at Washington State University and a former postdoc in Schoenbohm’s lab. Read more

Apply now for Pitch with a Twist 
This competition features women-identifying participants pitching to women-identifying judges. The March 6 event, which also includes guest speakers and networking opportunities, showcases both innovative business ideas and early-stage startups, with $10,000 in cash prizes.
Keynote speaker Catherine Addai, founder of the Kaela Kay fashion brand, inspired by her own Ghanaian heritage, will share insights and experiences for those looking to make their mark in the entrepreneurial world.
All ideators or early-stage startups that align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals are invited to apply. Applications are open until Feb. 20. Read more

Announcements

Amanda Pautler has accepted the role of executive director, public affairs at UTM, on an interim basis until Dec. 31, 2024.
This role fills the void left by Jane Stirling who accepted the secondment as executive director, internal communications at UTC last October. Paulter will report to both the vice president and principal at UTM and the vice president communications.
Paulter will oversee UTM’s portfolios in communications and external relations to align campus specific work at UTM with the tri-campus vision of UTC and the long-term priorities of the university. She joined U of T in 2007 following progressive policy and program leadership roles in the Ontario public service.  
Patricia Lonergan will continue in her role as interim director, marketing and communications.
