Rules Governing Band Meeting Q&A Session

This informal Q&A session has been arranged to offer TteS band members an opportunity to have an open discussion regarding the proposed amendments to the Rules Governing Band Meetings. The event is hosted by Sheila Schmitt, TteS Policy Analyst.

Two Special Band Meetings

We have TWO important SPECIAL BAND MEETINGS happening in February. It is vital that all band members attend these meetings and vote on the critical amendments to the Custom Election Regulations and Rules Governing General Band Meetings.

Water Settlement Clinics

If Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc band members require assistance with completing a First Nations Drinking Water (FNDW) Claim, please attend one of the following Drop-In Clinics at Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc:

  • Friday, February 2
  • Friday, February 9
  • Wednesday, February 21

All clinics will take place at the Chief Louie Centre Lands & Leasing Office Boardroom from 10am - 3pm. When attending the Drop-In Clinics, please bring proper identification for yourself and anyone you are representing, a VOID cheque or Direct Deposit Form if applicable, and any other required documents such as a Power of Attorney if applicable.

RCMP Meeting

Tk̓emlúps Chief and Council, Diena Jules and Greg Ferguson met with RCMP Staff Sergeant Sascha Fesenko, Constable Mark Janus, and Constable Dave Dixon to work on developing a protocol around the care and handling of Indigenous Ceremonial items and sacred bundles.

Tim Bit Player of the Night

The Tim Hortons TimBit Player of the Night is a local hockey player from the age of 6-9 who is chosen to join the Blazers on the ice for the game opening! The kid who is chosen will be the honorary Blazer for the night, skating out with the team at the start of the game and standing on the blue line with the big kids for the game opening!

Little fans can let us know that they’d like to be chosen as the TimBit Player of the Night for Indigenous Night on February 7, 2024 by filling out the application (link below). Please note the application is due on January 22, 2024 by 4pm. The successful applicant will be notified on January 24, 2024. Completed applications must be emailed to events@ttes.ca.

Archery Nights

Join us for Archery Nights with The Kamloops Bowbenders Club at Moccasin Square Garden! Open to all everyone. Free admission for Tk̓emlúps residents aged 5 and up. Beginners session from 6-7pm, and Advanced Archers from 7-8pm. For more info, contact the Full Circle Youth Centre at (250) 320-8625 or email the Bowbenders club at archery@ktsa.ca

Kneeshaw Album Release

Join Tk̓emlúps musician Jeremy Kneeshaw on Valentine's Day, February 14, for an unforgettable night celebrating his latest album, 4th Try! Dance, sing, and celebrate with couples, singles, and people of all ages (19 - 90). The night kicks off with comedy by Tara Holmes at 6PM, followed by live music from the Jeremy Kneeshaw band.

Archaeological Training

The Archaeological Training For Crew Members course is scheduled for February 12-16 and will prepare individuals for cultural resource management projects in their traditional territory. This intensive program will be held at the Chief Louis Centre Assembly Hall in Kamloops and offers technical skills with an emphasis on the practice of respectful archaeology. The sessions run from Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4 pm, combining classroom instruction with hands-on experience. Participants must be physically fit and ready for outdoor work.

The deadline to apply is February 2nd, with only 10 spots available. For more information and application, interested individuals can contact Heleana Moore in the TteS Natural Resources Department (NRD) at heleana.moore@ttes.ca or 236-597-1605. The course is open to everyone, however band members will be given priority, especially if they are interested in working for NRD.

SSN Title Case

On February 5th, 2024, the SSN Title Case Workshops will provide a crucial update to SSN community members regarding the SSN Title Case. The workshops will take place at two locations, offering flexibility for attendees (SSN members may attend either one). The first session will be held at the Skeetchestn gym from 12 noon to 3pm, with lunch provided. The second session will take place in Kamloops (Tk̓emlúps) at the Coast Canadian Hotel in the Columbia Room from 5pm to 8pm, featuring a buffet supper. Robert Simon will serve as the Chairperson for the workshops, and the presentation will be conducted by Sarah Hanson of Miller Thomson.

Coffee with a Cop

Please note NEW location: Community Services, 300 Chilcotin Road

On Wednesday, February 7 at 10:00 am, Community Services (300 Chilcotin Road) will host our monthly Coffee with a Cop. This gathering aims to foster a better understanding between Tk̓emlúps RCMP and community members. The casual setting of the event will offer a chance to engage in conversations over coffee and tea. The organizers hope that this initiative will further strengthen the relationship between the police and the community. Everyone is welcome to attend, and we look forward to seeing you there!

Be More than a Bystander

Be More Than A Bystander (BMTAB) is hosting an event at Moccasin Square Garden on February 5, exclusively for TteS Community Members. The initiative, led by former BC Lion JR LaRose, focuses on organizational and cultural transformations to create welcoming, healthy, safe, and respectful workplaces. JR LaRose, known for his success on the football field and commitment to Native heritage, will be the featured speaker. His story of redemption, recognized by awards for community service and sportsmanship, transcends racial and generational barriers. JR, a spokesperson for BC's BMTAB campaign, aims to raise awareness about violence against women and inspire others on their journeys of redemption. The event emphasizes the theme that everyone has an opportunity to redeem themselves, regardless of their past.

Join the RCMP for GYM NIGHT! TteS community youth aged 12 to 18 are invited to Moccasin Square Garden (MSG) on Saturday, February 24th, from 7pm - 9pm. Get ready for a fun-filled evening of sports and games like basketball, ping pong, and more! Light refreshments provided. Just remember to bring your indoor running shoes! See you there!

CER Vote

TteS Members are invited to attend a Special Band Meeting (SBM) to VOTE on proposed amendments to the TteS Custom Election Regulations (CER), to be held on February 28, 2024. A 2nd SBM will be held on March 27, 2024 if required to finalize VOTING on remaining CER proposed amendment resolutions not voted on at the Feb. 28th SBM.

Artist Call

Bringing the Salmon Home: The Columbia River Salmon Reintroduction Initiative extends an invitation to submit examples of your work. This artist call is open to accomplished Indigenous artists who are members of the Secwépemc Nation, Syilx Okanagan Nation, or Ktunaxa Nation. All artistic mediums are welcomed. You are invited to share some portfolio examples of your creative work, for reference for potential commissions going forward.

Secwepemc Scholars Gathering

Secwepemc scholars with a Doctorate or Masters degree, please join us for a two-day gathering of Secwepemc scholars at Moccasin Square Gardens on February 2 & 3. Thompson Rivers University Indigenous Education and Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc will be hosting a two-day of learning, sharing, and discourse around Indigenous-led education and research development. Our goal is to bring together Secwepemc scholars to create a Secwepemc Nation Research Ethics Policy and Secwepemc Nation Research Ethics Board.

This event is open to members of the Secwepemc Nation that hold a Doctorate or Masters degree.

Athletics Development Camp

I∙SPARC (Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Council) is pleased to present the 2024 BC Indigenous Athletics Development Camp camp in partnership with Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc and the Kamloops Track & Field Club. This event is being held on the weekend of February 3-4, 2024 at the Tournament Capital Centre (TCC) in Kamloops. All Indigenous youth (First Nations, Métis, Inuit), ages 10-18 are invited to participate. Please register before 4pm, Tuesday, January 30.
